(The following is the third of three excerpts from The Right Frequency: The Story of the Talk Radio Giants Who Shook Up the Political and Media Establishment, by Fred Lucas; History Publishing Company. The adapted excerpt looks at the Fairness Doctrine.) The Democratic National Committee, with the approval of President Lyndon B. Johnson engaged in an effort that eventually led to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Fairness Doctrine. What would have been a major scandal had it been discovered, was revealed years later in former CBS News president Fred Friendly’s book “The Good Guys, the Bad Guys and...

“Fidel Castro could have been Cuba’s Elvis!” (Dan Rather.) “Fidel Castro is one hell of a guy! “You people would like him!” (Ted Turner to a capacity crowd at Harvard Law School during a speech in 1997.) “Fidel Castro is old-fashioned, courtly—even paternal, a thoroughly fascinating figure!” (Andrea Mitchell.) “Castro has brought very high literacy and great health-care to his country. His personal magnetism is powerful, his presence is commanding.” (Barbara Walters.) “Viva Fidel! Viva Che!” (Jesse Jackson while arm in arm with Fidel Castro himself in 1984.) "Fidel Castro is very shy and sensitive, I frankly like him and...

"I've been covering politics since way before Tim Tebow was born," Dan Rather, the disgraced former anchor for CBS' "Evening News" said on the Monday night broadcast of MSNBC's "Rachel Maddow" program. "But these things unfold as time goes on. And while right now Ryan looks like he is toxic for the ticket, it could be as we get deeper in the campaign, that this intelligent man, he is intelligent and serious man, will show something that people do not now see." "In the early going, in the early going, Ryan damages the ticket because rightly or wrongly, he's perceived...

If this is how Dan Rather at peace looks like, wonder what he's like when angry and embittered . . . On Morning Joe today, Rather emphatically alleged that he was "at peace" over the Memogate fiasco that led to the end of his career. But he couldn't help himself from suggesting that his reputation had been destroyed by anonymous partisans employing "lies." View the video here.

Dan Rather just won’t let it go. Nearly eight years after his fabled career at CBS News imploded like a death star over the notorious George W. Bush/Texas Air National Guard segment on 60 Minutes Wednesday, he can’t stop combing the debris for shards of vindication. “I have a story to tell from my point of view,” he says about his new book, Rather Outspoken: My Life in the News, which roasts network management for its “spineless” behavior during the Bush episode; takes potshots at his successor in the CBS Evening News anchor chair, Katie Couric, as a purveyor of...

Former “CBS Evening News” anchor Dan Rather says presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney has a 50 percent chance of beating President Barack Obama in November. “I have no idea what kind of president [former Massachusetts] Gov. Romney will make, but I do think … he has a good chance of becoming president,” Rather told Politico. “President Obama is even money at best at this particular time … His odds right now are 50/50 in my book.” Obama performs much better campaigning than as president, said Rather, who is promoting a new book, “Rather Outspoken: My Life In the News.”...

Breaking: NBC Fires Producer Who Created False Zimmerman Audio By Matthew Sheffield Created 04/06/2012 - 7:55pm NBC News has fired the producer it says was responsible for creating the deceptive audio recording of George Zimmerman communicating with a 9-1-1 operator, according to the New York Times. The network is still refusing to release the name of the producer, although according to Times reporter Brian Stelter, the producer is based in Miami and has worked there for a number of years. According to Stelter's network sources, NBC is still insisting the deceptive edit was not done deliberatiely. The network has refused...

At least one comes to mind, Dan. Guess who? Turns out that oft-flogged figure from liberals of 98 percent of American women using contraception is too low, at least according to former CBS News anchor Dan Rather, who's now working at something or someplace called HDNet. (video clip after page break) Appearing on last night's Rachel Maddow show, Rather claimed that use of birth control is virtually universal. Whether this conclusion is based on Rather's reporting, first-hand knowledge or some combination thereof was left unstated. Fans of unintentional humor who were watching weren't disappointed -- RATHER: I still can't believe...

In an interview with Wolf Blitzer, Herman Cain said a new accuser would be coming forward to accuse him of having a 13-year affair with him. No links yet as the story is currently breaking and details are still being released. Apparentally a Georgia TV station has the exclusive.

Don't underestimate Newt Gingrich, warns Dan Rather during an MSNBC roundtable discussion today. "Anyone who has covered Newt Gingrich over the years knows better than to underestimate him," said Rather, referencing his political comeback. "Newt Gingrich on the move politically is as dangerous as a wounded wolverine." Rather added that Jon Huntsman was the best candidate for the GOP in the 2012 general election, but would have a hard time winning the Republican primary.

Does Anyone Have A Link To Original First Thread Of Bush Document Where FR Debunked Dan Rather? I'm trying to find the first thread where a poster put up a document claiming G.W. Bush was either AWOL or refused an Order. It was during the time the Swift Boat Navy Seamen were exposing Kerry for the fraud he was, and were speaking against Kerry. Can anyone provide me with the link where Free Republic proved that it was a Word Document and a fraud?

According to the survey, which was released Monday, 28 percent of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP say they support Perry as their party's presidential nominee, with Romney at 21 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is at ten percent, with Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who's making his third bid for the White House, former Godfather's Pizza CEO and radio talk show host Herman Cain, and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, all at seven percent. The poll indicates that Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota is at four percent, with former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania at three...

Redacted How many American soldiers will lose their lives because of this anti-war movie? That is the first question anyone who sees the recently released anti-American film should ask. I was one of only four people at the Ritz Bourse theater for the first showing in Philadelphia last Friday. I hope this suggests that it will fail to find an audience in the United States. I have no doubt it will be a hit with those who seek to destroy America. While the pattern of Hollywood’s anti-American commitment is the same as it was in Vietnam, one of the major...

The latest issue of Capitol File magazine has a glowing feature on CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Norah O’Donnell. In it she claims that past journalists that have filled the role of chief White House correspondent for a major network have been “legendary” and “the very best” in the field. Of this “very best” she laughably elevates discredited CBS News anchor Dan Rather into that pantheon. Capitol File is a magazine that focuses on D.C. elites, the movers and shakers, the bight lights in the City On The Hill. In it’s pages you will see all the beautiful people...

Excerpts from the new Inspector Dan Rather mysterySecrets are funny things. The harder you try to keep them under wraps, the harder they spring up in the most embarrassing places. And in my line of business, you learn that no matter how you try thinking about baseball those secrets can jump right out of their soft cotton comfort and put you on ice permanently. My name is Rather. And I'm a dick. Continued

Chris Matthews assembled a panel including Dan Rather and Rachel Maddow to discuss whether Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann should enter the presidential race to scoop up Mike Huckabee’s voters in Iowa. Surprisingly, Rather spoke very highly of Bachmann and called her “very articulate” and someone who could be “dynamite” in the race. Rather also told Matthews that Bachmann has real “break-away potential” and could potentially go all the way:

That’s what Jim Rendon asks in his piece about Dan Rather and his work on HDNet. Owner Mark Cuban has made little effort to extend Rather’s reach, he writes. New York Times media reporter Brian Stelter hasn’t written about Rather’s show since it first launched because HDNet has never “flagged one of his big stories for me effectively.” See here the article in Mother Jones magazine. http://motherjones.com/media/2011/02/dan-rather-reports-mark-cuban-hd-net?page=1 Dan Rather: Inside Mark Cuban's Gilded Cage At 79, the former CBS anchorman is still kicking ass and winning Emmys. But with his exposés sandwiched between pro wrestling and Girls Gone Wild, is...

Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather was both funny and passionate when he addressed a packed house Thursday night at San Antonio College. Sounding a little choked up, he encouraged the audience of students and others to follow their dream, whatever that may be, because “by doing your heart's bidding, you can find a way to burn with the white hot flame that can make the difference between having a job and having a career, a life's work filled with joy and meaning.” However, his clearest message was a warning. Rather said that when it comes to the media, this...
