Donald J. Trump barged into the Connecticut Republican primary Thursday night by endorsing Leora Levy for U.S. Senate in a phone call to an audience in Montville that included Levy’s two rivals, Themis Klarides and Peter Lumaj. “I’m giving tonight my complete and total endorsement to Leora Levy, and she’s going to go out and win this primary,” Trump said, his voice coming from Levy’s phone, amplified over a P.A. system. Levy and Lumaj are conservative Trump loyalists challenging Klarides, the convention-endorsed candidate and former state House Republican leader who has publicly acknowledged not voting for Trump in 2020. On Saturday morning, during the heatwave that swept the East Coast, a new electrically powered public transportation bus caught on fire as it sat in the bus parking lot, according to fire officials. The Hamden Fire Department was dispatched to the CT Transit bus depot in order to extinguish the fire that had spread throughout the electric bus. According to the authorities, the lithium-ion battery was responsible for the fire that broke out on the electric bus. “Lithium-ion battery fires are difficult to extinguish due to the thermal chemical process that produces great heat and continually reignites,” the fire officials...

For centuries, some of the biggest names in firearms — Colt, Winchester, Smith & Wesson — have made their homes in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut, a region that grew so rife with gunmakers it earned the nickname “Gun Valley.” The signature weapons that powered America’s wars from the muskets of 1812 to the M1 Garand of World War II to the M16 in Vietnam were made by the millions here, as were the pistols on the hips of law enforcement officers across the land. To many, it’s a surprising distinction for a region that reliably votes blue and sports some...

On Thursday, Cook Political Report updated their predictions, and the situation is looking even better for Republicans to win back control of the U.S. House of Representatives come the November midterm elections. Cook Political Report had already forecast that the GOP would win back control late last December. Part of the revision included a change of prediction in 12 seats, 10 of which favor Republicans. When it comes to seats in Republicans' favor, perhaps most notably is how Rep. Susan Wild's (D-PA) seat has been moved from Toss Up to Lean Republican. Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV) and Rep. Kurt Schrader's...

Back on March 25, 2020, at the start of the COVID pandemic, then-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order that required nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients. This was despite it being known — even at that point — that seniors were the most vulnerable population. After that order, thousands died in the nursing homes in New York. Cuomo later tried to cover that up, by changing the way that the deaths were counted, as I reported in May of 2020. Once the numbers started getting attention, suddenly, the way New York was counting the deaths changed. They...
