As Gideon Resnick noted last December in the Daily Beast, pre-candidate Trump was not as passionately concerned with Pamela Geller’s First Amendment free speech rights as he now is about his own:

I have just read this and personally I think that if President Obama selects someone and Cruz does go and filibusters it would be the best thing to happen to his campaign. For instance Obama nominates Eric Holder, and Cruz leaves the campaign trail and heads to Washington to block it; then his campaign would be able to paint the picture of his being willing to potentially lose the primary for the sake of saving the country from Obama.
