I asking for suggestions on how we can show our public support for police. It should be something we can do enmasse. Many of us have watched this assault on our country with horrified impotence. This can't continue. We need some way to show police that we are behind the police and appreciate them and that we support the rule of law.

A backlash is mounting against depictions of “good cops,” on television and in the street. It was only a matter of time before the protests came for “Paw Patrol.” “Paw Patrol” is a children’s cartoon about a squad of canine helpers. It is basically a pretense for placing household pets in a variety of cool trucks. The team includes Marshall, a firefighting Dalmatian; Rubble, a bulldog construction worker; and Chase, a German shepherd who is also a cop. In the world of “Paw Patrol,” Chase is drawn to be a very good boy who barks stuff like “Chase is on...

The president of the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York said Wednesday that officers across the country are being portrayed by the media "as the enemy" amid protests over the death of George Floyd, with Mike O'Meara underscoring that police "act appropriately and honorably" a vast majority of the time. "We are portrayed in the press and everywhere else as the enemy and we want people to know that we take our jobs seriously. We’re professional. Cops has been taken off the force: The long-running reality TV pioneer has been cancelled at Paramount Network following a nearly seven-year run there, our sister site Deadline is reporting. “Cops is not on the Paramount Network, and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return,” a network spokesperson said in a statement. The groundbreaking docuseries, which followed real law enforcement professionals from around the country as they patrolled the local streets and arrested criminals, debuted back in 1989 on Fox, airing there on Saturday nights for more than two decades until it was cancelled in...

Yesterday we looked at the story of how the Blue Lives Matter website was probably going to be shut down because the idea of supporting the police and reporting on incidents of violence toward them was so “offensive” to certain people. Well, less than 24 hours later, the site is gone. Any links going to particular articles on the site redirect to a statement explaining why the site is “stepping back” to retool their operation, but they plan to return on a different platform in the near future. That’s a shame, because they were covering a lot of stories that...

Police in Louisville, Kentucky, walked out on the city's mayor in protest at him 'disrespecting' them as they claimed he 'does not care about them at all'. Video shows officers and detectives from the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) silently streaming out of a room as mayor Greg Fischer prepared to address them ahead of a 12-hour shift. Fraternal Order of Police president Ryan Nichols, who was not present, said the move was an unplanned reaction by officers who said they felt 'completely unsupported and disrespected.' Tensions in the city have been high after the death of EMT Breonna Taylor...

On Tuesday night, as Mayor Bill de Blasio went on CNN to lie to Chris Cuomo that all was “calm” in New York, the exhausted men and women of the NYPD were being bruised and battered for the fourth night by criminals running amok under the cover of George Floyd protests. “It’s been a good night,” de Blasio said. As he spoke, the reality on the streets was revealed in a video going viral on Twitter of a “looting party” in Soho, with hundreds of revelers milling around looted stores and dancing on cars.

Putting the violent rioting aside for a moment, politicians in both parties are insinuating that the killing of George Floyd was racially motivated and reflects a broader injustice against black citizens more than anyone else, which legitimizes the rage undergirding the riots, if not the riots themselves. This assertion is simply not borne out by reality. According to the Washington Post’s searchable database on police shootings, nine unarmed black people were shot dead by cops in 2019, while 19 unarmed white people shared the same fate. So even before we examine whether these shootings were justified, there were more than...
