September 10, 2012 DNC vs. RNC: Which convention had the most impact? Donald Trump weighs in
-
Last week, Democrats feasted on the extreme positions of Rep. Todd Akin of Missouri during the Republican National Convention. Yet Democrats have gone too far in the other direction, threatening their hold on the great American middle. Abortion is a more delicate subject than our fierce, partisan arguments would have it.

His Agenda: President Obama's convention speech got rough reviews, and rightly so. He offered little but tired bromides and recycled promises. But critics overlooked one promise that will guarantee an even bleaker future. There was plenty to dislike in Obama's speech. The language was flat, his delivery languid. The speech was stuffed with standard Obama chestnuts about the smallness of politics, the corrupting influence of money in politics, and how cynicism is our worst enemy. [snip] But while everyone was picking apart these and other flaws in Obama's speech, they overlooked the most frightening line of all.

It began, like the Obama presidency itself, with the loftiest of hopes and the greatest of expectations.

Protesters peacefully leave Marshall ParkBy April Bethea, Joe Marusak and Karen Sullivan The Charlotte Observer Posted: Friday, Sep. 07, 2012 CHARLOTTE, N.C. Protesters peacefully exited Marshall Park on Friday shortly after the noon deadline came for them to leave. **SNIP** Evan Kelley of Jacksonville, Fla., said he was one of the last people to use a port-a-jon at the park. He said he tried to wake people to warn them the toilets were being taken away. “The city was handling things very well until this incident,” he said. “To leave everyone without a place to go the bathroom, there’s no...

Charlotte man charged with threatening president on TwitterBy Caleb Troop The Charlotte Observer Posted: Friday, Sep. 07, 2012 **SNIP** Donte Jamar Sims, 21, appeared in court Thursday after officials said he posted threats to kill the president on his Twitter account Monday. Sims posted several statements through his @DestroyLeague_D account, and a Secret Service agent was made aware of the tweets Tuesday, police said. “Well Ima Assassinate president Obama this evening !...Gotta get this monkey off my chest while he’s in town - -,” the tweet read at 6:06 a.m. Monday. Two hours later, Sims allegedly posted, “Ima hit president...

The president’s convention speech was never going to be a make-or-break moment for him in this campaign: People already have an opinion of him, they basically know his pitch, and unless he planned to offer a major new proposal or argument it wouldn’t have been easy for him to move anyone with his convention closer. But he surely could have done better than he did. He gave the fourth best speech of the Democratic convention, and the three better ones—Bill Clinton’s, Michelle Obama’s, and (rather surprisingly, at least for me) Joe Biden’s—weren’t spectacular. And he gave a speech that couldn’t...

The system is rigged. America is unjust. Opportunity is dead. You didn’t build that. Dammit, where’s mine? Oh, and Republicans are the people who rigged the system. They’re trying to take away your rights to vote, to health care, to education, to housing. They hate women, gays and immigrants. They don’t pay their fair share and they’re un-American. Barack Obama lights candles, Mitt Romney spreads darkness, and Osama bin Laden is dead. There, I saved you the time of watching the Democratic convention. For three grating days, demands for more government spending were coupled with sweeping character assassinations of Romney....

The Democratic National Convention was a musical tragedy composed in three acts. Tuesday night was the gathering of special interests and professional victims from every corner of the known universe, the most toxic group of economic and spiritual vampires since the mass gatherings in the early 18th century. If any suffering portion of the American subculture missed their turn at the bar, I missed it. It seemed that every ethnic, cultural, sexual group in the country with more than three members put in at least a cameo appearance, as did the community organizers, union bosses, government employees and all the...

The most fascinating aspect of Barack Obama’s acceptance speech, other than it was pure, political science fiction, was that it was eerily identical to his 2008 address; both in tone and rhetoric. He promised to heal the Earth, feed the hungry, house the cold, foster economic vitality, restore unity, reduce the deficit, cut unemployment (5% again?), develop sustainable, domestic energy, provide transparency in all federal matters, and to strengthen our Armed Forces. Yes, “We the People” have heard it all before; all this from the same rationale, “patriotic” leader who said “You didn’t build it”, profits should be shared (envy...

The official said the gate would not re-open and that no ticketholders - even delegates and special guests - would be admitted.

Did you listen to former President Bill Clinton's DNC speech? Yes No

Not sure how useful this is but I subjected you to an eeyorish "no bounce yet" post about Romney during the convention so I owe you a tentative high-five. Mitt ended up with the most modest possible bump after the GOP shindig ended; maybe this new poll is a sign that O won't fare any better.Major, major caveat: The poll was conducted (via online interview) from September 2 through today, which means the sample contains lots of people who hadn't yet heard Michelle Obama or, especially, Bill Clinton speak. As I say, not that useful, but worth flagging as a...

The Democrats know how to hold a party convention. They can give speeches, fire up the base, energize their key demographics, and hoodwink the willing news media. What they can’t do is manage the government. The 2012 Democratic National Convention presented the Democratic Party’s best face to the world, declaring support for American values while attacking them, championing the middle class while punishing it, pledging allegiance to “opportunities for the poor” while stripping those opportunities from the very fabric of American life. THE SPEAKERS Who are the Democrats’ faces in 2012? Lily Ledbetter, a tire factory worker who sued her...
