Israel's decision to release frozen public funds to the Palestinians last week came after Germany insisted it did so as a condition for the completion of the sale of a submarine, a German newspaper reported Sunday. The Welt am Sonntag quoted sources as saying Germany had told Israel it could not go ahead with the purchase of the submarine unless it made political concessions. According to the report, aides of German chancellor Angela Merkel had confidentially informed leaders of opposition parties in parliament that Israel made a concession before Berlin approved the sale on Wednesday.

A newly released WikiLeaks cable quotes Ron Dermer, a top adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, telling a U.S. diplomat of Israelis’ frustration with the peace process. Surprisingly, however, Dermer didn’t focus primarily on Palestinian behavior. I was one of those who had faith. This is AWFUL.

What would happen if on the 5th of Nov it was obvious that McCain had won the election by a fairly wide margin and Obama refused to concede? I am not sure but I am very afraid that in the current racial and political climate things could get out of hand very quickly and, potentially, very explosively.

I thought it would be interesting to mosey down memory lane to recall not just the concession but the 36 days of rancor preceding.
