My primary goal when I’m out and about, besides whatever I went out and about to do, is to go about peaceably and not be the victim of a violent crime. To that end I carry a firearm whenever I go out as well as follow all the other standard safety practices like maintaining situational awareness, staying out of high crime areas, and avoiding confrontation. I also have a larger overall goal of making it through my life without shooting anyone. Simply put, I don’t want to be responsible, legally or morally, for another’s death. Those two goals might...

VAN WERT — Persian Gulf War veteran James Redmon was in a different fight Monday, in a courtroom battling for his right to carry a concealed handgun. He was treated for post-traumatic stress disorder more than six years ago. Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas Riggenbach cited PTSD as the reason he denied Redmon a concealed handgun license in a March 6 letter. The 44-year-old Redmon said Riggenbach misinterpreted the law and he should get his license. The matter was argued in a courtroom Monday and as it turns out, there’s a little more to the story. Redmon was once charged...

The Republican Party of Virginia's request for the records of concealed handgun permits across the state were met with concern Monday by several Southwest Virginia circuit court clerks, with one seeking an attorney general's opinion. "The request itself poses several important legal questions," said Jack Kennedy, court clerk for Wise County and Norton. He and other clerks in the area received a Freedom of Information Act request from Anthony Reedy, the state GOP's executive director, asking for a list of concealed handgun permit carriers in each jurisdiction. Kennedy outlined his legal questions in a letter sent Monday to state Attorney...

SPRINGFIELD --- State lawmakers today approved compromise legislation to set up rules on who can carry concealed guns and where they can be carried. Illinois is the last state in the nation not to have some form of concealed carry on the books, but a federal appeals court overturned the state’s long standing ban in December and gave lawmakers until June 9 to come up with regulations to allow it.

Illinois --(Ammoland.com)- Cliff or no cliff- that is the question. Today we should see revised language for HB0183. As all of you know we have been working very hard for concealed carry for a very long time. For me it has been 27 years and for others like Jim Vinopal it has been twice that long. Today at some time we will see language for an amendment to HB0183. We will all have to read the bill and decide if we can support it or not or just remain neutral . For me 27 years of work will have to be decided...

To wit: Let's roll back a few years to the day my mother was attacked at her volunteer job at the Republican Party HQ in Appleton Wisconsin. Her attacker was a known offender with a history of violence. He had barged in yelling obscenities over perceived offenses against him consisting of phonecalls (like we all get at campaigning time). Luckily all the man did manage to do was knock her down then storm off. He was arrested the same afternoon as eyewitnesses knew who he was. (Had I been there he would have been the next recipient of a knockdown...

On the Hill: Senate Narrowly Rejects Pro-Gun Amendment, While House Committee Approves Protection for VeteransOn May 8, the U.S. Senate took up consideration of S. 601, the "Water Resources Development Act of 2013." During the debate, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) offered an amendment to extend the Right to Carry to lands administered by the Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps manages over 11.7 million acres, including many recreational areas. In 2009, Congress passed legislation protecting the Right to Carry in national parks and wildlife refuges, but lands under Corps of Engineers management are not covered by that law. With strong...

Mike Bost , who exploded last year after he was given a massive bill just minutes before a vote on it on the House floor, once again launched into blasting the tyrants in the Illinois State House. This time he took aim at freshman legislator Scott Drury’s comments about other Republican members of the House and their stand on the Second Amendment. “Floor amendments should be some technical small change that we shouldn’t have to worry about like this. But yet you bring a whole bill that has questions whether it is even constitutional,” Bost said. “Folks, the process is...

A St. Louis County police records clerk was stumped when a concealed-carry permit applicant presented a certificate showing he had received the required eight hours of firearms training that very day. She looked at her watch. It was about 1:30 p.m. March 5. She asked exactly when he took the class. It started at 10 a.m., he said. She alerted supervisors.

Bat Man: A Chicago store owner beats off two armed thugs with a baseball bat as Missouri illegally shares concealed carry records with feds and New York matches private health records with gun permits to take firearms. President Obama, who campaigns for gun control between concerts at the White House and golf outings with Tiger Woods, once famously used the metaphor that in politics if they bring a knife to a fight, you bring a gun. On Tuesday, in the gun-controlled murder capital of Chicago, the president's hometown, store owner Luis Quizhpe, an Ecuadorean immigrant, had no gun, but he...

They keep telling you they have noting but good intentions, that to worry about the feds coming for your guns makes you part of “the black helicopter crowd.†But then things like this happen: In Missouri, federal investigators have demanded and obtained from the state government — apparently twice — the entire list of Missouri concealed weapon permit holders. As Matt Drudge notes, the Columbia Daily Tribune reports that in November 2011 and January 2012, the state highway patrol asked for and received the list of about 185,000 concealed weapon permit holders from the motor vehicle department — the only state...

Apparently the Missouri Department of Revenue keeps the list of all CCW permit holders and marks their driver license with a special indicator. Mo Highway Patrol requested a list of all and twice provided it to Social Security Administration.

WEST ALLIS (WITI) — A Marine Corps veteran was able to stop a man early Tuesday, March 12th from nearly kicking a woman to death. It happened near 102nd and Lincoln, and Wisconsin’s concealed carry law made his efforts possible. Charlie Blackmore was driving home from work at 4:00 a.m. along Lincoln Avenue when he saw something on the sidewalk. Blackmore didn’t realize it was a woman on the ground being kicked in the head and stomach until he got closer. That’s when he jumped out of his car and sprung into action. “I said ‘stop’ and he starts coming...

Update: … or is the bill really dead? The plot thickens as the Denver Post updates is original reporting, and says Sen. Heath might not have made up his mind… but his Democrat colleagues insist that no, his mind is indeed made up… but the Senate President says those guys are just peddling rumors:... --snip-- The “controversial comments” referenced by the Post include Democrat Rep. Joe Salazar suggesting that it’s better to arm high-strung women with rape whistles and “safe zones” instead of guns, so they don’t freak out if they “feel like you’re gonna be raped” and “pop out...

Guns: An Illinois court has ruled that the Second Amendment means what it says and has ordered the state legislature to adopt a law by June that lets citizens bear arms in self-defense, not just keep them. On Feb. 22, a 5-4 majority of the 10-member U.S. Seventh Court of Appeals upheld the Dec. 11 decision, which had been rendered by a three-member panel, to address absurdity and inconsistency of Illinois gun laws that allowed ownership of a firearm, but not the right to carry it outside the home. In other words, the "right to keep but not to bear...

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals has told Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan for the last time that she MUST honor the Constitution of the United States by doing away with her state’s ban on the concealed carry of firearms. It was back in December of last year that a 3 judge panel of the Court found the Illinois law banning concealed carry to be unconstitutional. “The Supreme Court has decided that the [2nd] amendment confers a right to bear arms for self-defense, which is as important outside the home as inside,” wrote 7th Circuit Judge Richard Posner, paraphrasing the...
