On the road for sales, not the first time. Let a homeless guy sleep in my truck for a night, not going to deny him shelter for a night. So his water bottle fell on my Laundry open and I failed to catch it. So I've a bunch of mold and mildew on half of the clothes in my laundry basket. The interwebs go into Borax, Oxygen Bleach, Vinegar and Baking Soda. Sorry, but with the loss of Misses Founded a couple years ago, not sure where to really go. Nice shirts, Khaki Pants ect. that I want to save....

FRANKLIN, MN—Amid growing frustration with lights being left on around the house, local father James Darabont sat his kids down to demonstrate how to flip a light switch to the "Off" position. The two-hour lecture and workshop went over when to turn a light switch off (always) and how to manipulate your fingers to accomplish such a task. "When you commit to a flipping action," said Mr. Darabont, "you must make sure the light switch goes alllll the way down. If you do not commit fully to the action, the switch may not fully click in the 'down' position. This...

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday that normal household cleaners and soap are adequate to use to clean indoor surfaces and disinfectants are only necessary if someone in the home has been sick with the virus. “In most situations, regular cleaning of surfaces with soap and detergent, not necessarily disinfecting those surfaces, is enough to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread,” said CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said at Monday’s White House coronavirus briefing. “Disinfection is only recommended in indoor settings—schools and homes—where there has been a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 within the last 24 hours,”...

I noticed at stores and various other places that they are always cleaning and cleaning the keypads on debit card readers, the carts, and everything they can clean. They are even cleaning the door handles at my office twice a day. MY option is that with all this cleaning you are killing off good bacteria and our immune systems are going to get really weak if we keep cleaning like this. Please prove me wrong if need be. Thanks!

I am tired of buying store-bought products that do more harm than good. I am curious if fellow FReepers were using baking soda and Epson Salt on a regular basis and if so what is your favorite tip. Perhaps you have another 'Secret' product that you use.

"Yesterday was another of my many cave adventures, but different than most. Instead of exploring and mapping newly discovered or out-of-the-way remote cave passages, I participated in a project of the Central Arizona Grotto (a chapter of the National Speleological Society and located in Phoenix) to remove years of graffiti from Peppersauce Cave. (Near Oracle, Arizona)Peppersauce has become what cavers call a “sacrificial cave.” It is open and ungated, relatively easy to traverse, and very well known throughout the state. Thus, many inexperienced people go there to see it, most of whom no little about caving, the ethics of protecting...

Clorox, the household name in the cleaning industry, recently released findings... The study’s first component consisted of an online survey of 2,000 American adults which found that those who enjoyed the act of cleaning were 25% happier that those who did not. People who keep a clean home are not only happier, but more relaxed and focused than those who are messy, a new survey finds. What’s more: children in cleaner home study more and show greater empathy. Furthermore, those who frequently spruced up the house didn’t seem to experience diminishing returns: for each extra hour of cleaning a week,...

USA Today isn't known for its blistering opinion pieces. Which makes the one the paper's editorial board just published on President Donald Trump all the more savage.

We’ve had requests for a thread on ‘kitchen problems’, so I thought we’d do it this week. * I cleaned out my refrigerator a few days ago, and was reminded of something I used to do and must start to do again. No matter how careful you are, there are always drips and leaks, or mess from a forgotten, rotten vegetable, staining up your refrigerator – especially the little shelves on the door. A good idea is to cut craft paper – or a brown paper bag – to fit those spaces, and then just change the paper out a...

I just brought home my first AR-15, specifically a Ruger AR556. My understanding, based on the condition of AR-15's I've handled and general hearsay from friends who own AR's has always been that AR-15's, generally speaking, like to be well-lubricated. However, the clerk I bought it from said that the AR556 prefers "not a whole lot of oil" and the videos Ruger puts out on the AR556 say not to go ham with the lube as well...This doesn't gel with what other people have told me, and furthermore, I've always erred on the side of keeping my guns quite well-oiled....

Here's your Hump day humor and education on remedial training on disassembling and cleaning an AR-15. For you AR owners this is a breeze, but it doesn't hurt to learn this subliminally by watching this video here. Here's some screen capture:

Full article from my personal FB account, that I wrote. I sometimes publish these under my old radio-persona name, with the catch-phrase 'Handy-Dandy Helpful Household Hints'. Yes, very cheesy and entirely hokey. 8-) I wrote this one this morning - lots of you probably know most of this already but on the off-chance someone learns something I am sharing. Be blessed, y'all. "Getting your decorations out of storage can mean putting dust, mold and dust mites into your atmosphere; flaring up allergies, sinus problems, sore throats, AND contribute to low energy! Ain’t nobody got time for that! (Summary: Clean your...

Clean Up Your Room Day When: Always on May 10th Clean Up Your Room Day is a day parents eagerly await........... and kids dread! If you've got kids, it is very possible that their rooms are a vast wasteland, completely filled with "good stuff". "Messy" is too kind of an adjective to describe the conditions. Its impossible to walk through the room. Every dresser and shelf (and under the bed), is packed with everything imaginable. Dust has been piling up as long as your child has been around. Comfy, cozy, and quite livable to the child, its an everyday...

WASHINGTON (AFP) – An international team of researchers has found that the atmosphere's ability to cleanse itself of pollutants and other greenhouse gases, except carbon dioxide, is generally stable. The study, published in Friday's edition of the journal Science, comes amid a fierce debate over whether, as some experts believe, the atmosphere's self-cleaning ability was fragile and sensitive to environmental changes. The research team, which was led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), measured levels in the atmosphere of hydroxyl radicals, which play a key role in atmospheric chemistry. Levels of the agent only fluctuated a few percentage...

It’s taken millions of dollars to cap it, and it could take billions more to clean it up. BP’s oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is perhaps the environmental catastrophe of the century. But Tel Aviv University has a solution that may help remedy the remaining oil residue through a natural, biological process. Prof. Eugene Rosenberg and Prof. Eliora Ron of Tel Aviv University’s (TAU) Department of Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology are using naturally occurring oil-munching bacteria, grown at the TAU lab, to clean the hard-to-reach oil pockets that occur when oil mixes with sand and organic matter on...
