Police have identified the suspect who allegedly shot a police officer eye during a vehicle stop, sending him into a coma where he's now fighting for his life. Officer John Moynihan, 34, was attacked when he pulled over suspected gang members in Boston, Massachusetts, on Friday evening. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Angelo West, was shot dead by other officers at the scene in Boston on Friday evening after he opened fire. A female bystander was shot in the arm. West allegedly shot Moynihan 'point blank' and emptied his revolver in the unprovoked attack, police said, according to the Boston...

Stonewood Center shopping mall, located in the 200 block of Stonewood Street, was swarmed with fans of professional skateboarders Steven Fernandez, 15, and Keelan Dadd, 27. Downey police say hundreds converged inside the shopping center while thousands formed a line outside its doors.

Those who would even question the merits of this deal are dismissed by administration aides as “warmongers”, ... Unfortunately, there are plenty of worrying signs that is not what is happening in Lausanne, where it now seems Iran will be allowed to keep 6,000 of its centrifuges, considerably more than the 500-1,500 the US originally wanted, or the 4,000 “compromise” offer Washington made a year ago. Even more worryingly, the US is reportedly considering allowing Iran to keep some centrifuges at Fordow, the impenetrably hardened underground facility that Iran built in secret, and only admitted to having in 2009 ......

Ukraine’s Ministry of Information Policy created a special “information force” or internet army to combat Russian trolls and pro-Kremlin media from spreading propaganda online. The Ministry also launched a new website, i-army.org. The new website appeared online on February 23 with a slogan, “Each of your information messages is a bullet in your enemy’s conscience.” According to the Ministry, Ukrainians interested to serve the country as volunteer internet fighters can apply by submitting their names and e-mail addresses to the website. “Many fronts have been opened against us, and one of the most crucial ones is the information one. Now...

The Flying Fortress was made famous in its role in the Daylight Strategic Bombing Campaign of WWII and the post-war movies, like Memphis Belle, that made it an icon. Now this B-17 is no longer avoiding anti-aircraft fire or enemy fighters but has exchanged its explosive warheads in order to drop people from the bomb bay. The four-engine taildragger was built in 1945, too late to see combat, and now flies as part the World War II aircraft collection with the Collings Foundation. This particular B-17 has served many roles over the years including Air and Sea Rescue, a water...

Emerging details of a possible nuclear deal with Iran have drawn sharp criticism from congressional lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, who say the U.S. and its international partners may be ceding too much as a key deadline nears. If reports are true, "then we are not inching closer to Iran’s negotiating position, but leaping toward it with both feet,” charged Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a vocal critic of the direction of the talks. “My fear is that we are no longer guided by the principle that ‘no deal is...

Police fired tear gas at an angry crowd fighting over food supplies in Sierra Leone on Saturday, while other residents defied a three-day national lockdown that the government hopes will accelerate the end of the Ebola epidemic. Sierra Leone has reported nearly 12,000 cases and more than 3,000 deaths since the worst Ebola epidemic in history was detected in neighboring Guinea a year ago. New cases have fallen sharply since a peak of more than 500 a week in December but the government says the lockdown, its second, is necessary to identify the last cases and to buck a worrying...

Short on dismal news? Have a look at this notice, taped to the counter at the Yankee Tavern on 161st Street in the Bronx. “Due to the increased price of pastrami,” it began, unpromisingly, “we at the Yankee Tavern apologize for the increase in prices for the pastrami items.” Pastrami is in crisis. “I contemplated taking it off the menus,” Joe Bastone, owner of the tavern, said. “I came very close to doing it. I decided to try passing it on.”

...[Writer Beau] Willimon, then in his 20s, became one of many young people to devote themselves to Vermont Gov. Howard Dean’s Beltway-assaulting run for the 2004 Democratic nomination for president... He was a student at Columbia in 1998, wilting in the New York heat while studying Greek classics at the uptown Ivy, when Carson -- coming off an internship with George Stephanopoulos -- tempted him with tales of his work on a Senate campaign. Congressman Chuck Schumer, a gregarious Democrat from Brooklyn, was a longshot in the party’s primary, but Stephanopolous assured Carson that he would win. Carson started out...
