Amid reports that MSNBC may overhaul a large portion of its programming, it's likely that the left-leaning network is about to cut ties with one of its most strident hosts. On Thursday, the media news site Mediaite reported that MSNBC, under new leadership by NBC News Chairman Andy Lack, is canceling at least three of its shows. Among them, the talk show "The Cycle," where Toure Neblett, once a flame-throwing commentator, particularly on racial issues, resides as a co-host. "The question is asked, what does he bring to the table?" one source inside MSNBC said to the Washington Examiner media...

THE time-honored way to speak of young people is with horror. They’re wild, reckless, irresponsible, narcissistic, immoral and hopeless — and always have been. Now along comes this generation of millennials, and we have a problem. They are raised on “service projects,” apply to Teach for America in torrents and donate to charity at a higher rate (87 percent) than their elders. Basically, they’ve stabbed us older generations in the back with their idealism and altruism, robbing us of the opportunity to feel superior. One of the exemplars of this trend, also catering to it, is Barbara Bush, 33. Yes,...

The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force has arrested two animal-rights activists after they spent half a year driving 40,000 miles around the U.S., raiding fur farms, and releasing about 5,740 mink into the wild. According to the Associated Press, in addition to freeing the mink (and one bobcat), Joseph Buddenberg, 31, and Nicole Kissane, 28, allegedly slashed tires, smashed windows, glued door locks, vandalized businesses using caustic acid, and even tried to flood a fur industry employee’s home.

Jeremy Telford has broken the world record for the largest balloon structure created by an individual. The balloon dog, on display in the US state of Utah, measured 65ft (19.8m) by 32ft (9.8m), which a Guinness World Record official said "blew the old record out of the water".

I am reading Day of Jackal, I had read it 30 years ago but in my re-reading I have realized that France, even though unstable politically, was run by competent individuals interested in securing the history and legacy of France. Charles de Gaulle might have a autocratic and I am opposed to such, but he is miles ahead of Francois Holland. When did France turn the corner for the worse? Was it the 70s?

Hundreds of people from the French Kurdish community have turned out for a demonstration in Paris. They are protesting against the attack by ISIL that killed 32 people in the mainly Kurdish town of Suruc, but also against the government’s bombing of Kurdish militant positions. French Kurd Saleh Mustapha said: “Turkey is double-dealing. It’s trying to convince the international community that it’s fighting ISIS but in reality it’s targeting the Kurds.” Another French Kurd, Leon Edart, said: “We have seen people arrested but among the 600 people arrested, there were probably a hundred from ISIS and the rest were Kurds....

My Dad and I used to watch the Jackie Gleason Show. Dad turned 90 last June, but his memory is not so good and I don't have anybody to share these memories with anymore. So I thought someone on free republic might have some.

Everyone from the book of Daniel to Isaac Newton to the Mayans to Nostradamus to Edgar Casey to Saint Malachi and his apostate Pope have implied that we are approaching the “End of Days”. Does anyone else think that this deal with Iran could have just made it so things could really go quickly now? I don’t know too many people who see it this way so I was just wondering.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The city’s largest bank is closing branches on the city’s north and west sides, but some groups are crying foul. The Chase bank at 29th and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. streets will close Aug. 20 and the branch at 38th Street and Washington Boulevard will close at the end of July. Both branches serve heavily concentrated minority communities. Some members of the city’s minority community have complained to members of the Indianapolis City-County Council and Congressman Andre Carson about the closures.

The report, Visualizing the Tactical Ground Battlefield in the Year 2050, was the result of a workshop held with leaders from the US Defence Department, Army Research Lab, Institute for Defence Analysis and a select number of academia. In the world envisioned, armed drones will patrol the skies searching for enemy targets to eliminate. The use of drones in the current military landscape dictates it is always a human that decides to pull the trigger, but the report suggests soldiers may only have limited control over the smart-robots of the future. “The difference being that in the former, human decisions...

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has struck a "landmark" deal to cut tariffs on $1.3 trn (£838bn) worth of technology products. The deal will update the 18-year-old IT Agreement and add 200 products to the zero tariff list. It is expected to give a boost to producers of goods ranging from video games to medical equipment. The WTO says the sum is equal to global trade in iron, steel, textiles and clothing combined. "Today's agreement is a landmark," said WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo. "Eliminating tariffs on trade of this magnitude will have a huge impact," he continued. "It will support...
