New York State Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, known for showing her claws against animal cruelty, is pouncing on a new topic: cat declawing. Rosenthal, who represents district 67, mainly covering Manhattan's Upper West Side, has penned a bill that would ban removing cats' claws unless necessary for medical reasons, the New York Daily News reports. The bill has not yet been introduced to the state Senate, but it has been backed by the Humane Society of New York. A new study on house cats has found that our feline companions are actually only semi-domesticated. People began domesticating cats around 9,000 years ago but DNA researchers from Washington University in St. Louis found that house cats still have many of the same traits as their wild cousins. The fact that cats have retained the ability to hunt and survive effortlessly in the wild just underscores how little impact we humans have had on them.

Cat Circles, where cats are drawn to a makeshift circle, sit down in the middle of the it and then refuse to move, are being recreated all over the world by plain old moggies who seemingly can't pass by a circle without being drawn to it. Hundreds of web users, mainly on Reddit and Imgur, are posting pictures of their successful feats, while vets and pet psychologists remain stumped.

MLive reports that Ann Arbor officials would like to see residents get licenses for their cats. Ann Arbor Mayor John Hieftje said cats are killing birds and “doing their business” in gardens.
