WASHINGTON In a slap at President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton will headline a fundraiser for a New York congresswoman challenging White House-backed Sen. Kristen Gillibrand in the state's Democratic primary. Clinton has not endorsed in the race, but his efforts to help Rep. Carolyn Maloney could be seen as a snub to Gillibrand and the Obama White House. Matt McKenna, a spokesman for Clinton, said he will be attending a July 20 fundraiser in New York. Albany LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES into the opening ceremony of the National Organization for Women's 40th Anniversary Con ference here, New York state NOW president Marcia Pappas announces that we are present at a "herstoric event." They really do talk like that. NOW, of course, is the nation's largest feminist organization. Founded in 1966, it reached the apex of its visibility and influence in the late 1970s and early '80s, when it went all out for the Equal Rights Amendment--and lost to Phyllis Schlafly's conservative legions. Today, weakened and marginalized, it staggers on, attempting to recapture the old fire. But...

WASHINGTON â A bill introduced in Congress by Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., seeks to take direct aim at the countryâs estimated 3,000 pro-life crisis pregnancy centers. That legislation, known as the âStop Deceptive Advertising for Womenâs Services Actâ (H.R. 5052), would grant the Federal Trade Commission the authority to penalize organizations that falsely advertise resources for abortion care services or counseling when they do not offer such services.âWhen women are making a health decision, they should never be subjected to deceit and trickery. Some of these crisis pregnancy centers should be called âcounterfeit pregnancy centers,ââ said Maloney in a statement,...

Thank you for those Freepers who rallied with us to show support for Anton Srdanovic's run for NY's 14th Congressional seat. Anton Srdanovic announced July 21, 2004 that he has filed to run for Congress on the Republican ticket in the 14th district of New York City. Unopposed in the primary, Anton is running against incumbent Democrat Carolyn Maloney. Anton led a rally at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza opposing Rep.Maloney's request for UN election monitors...

As a New Yorker, I received the following SPAM email from Hillary Clinton Today: Dear [ME]: The 108th Congress has adjourned for the year, and I thought it was a good time to update you on the past twelve months. It has been an active session full of challenges and opportunities. Like many of you, my top concerns this past year were economic security, homeland security, and national security. At the same time, I have continued to fight on other vital fronts, concentrating on efforts to improve health care, promote education, and protect the environment. It has been a tough...
