Republican Doug Ose has conceded in the race for California’s 7th Congressional District, the most expensive congressional race in the country this election. “Let me begin by saying that I celebrate the fact that our institutions and our laws provide us a system whereby elections can be peacefully resolved. I congratulate Congressman Bera on his victory,” Ose said in a written statement. Rep. Ami Bera’s lead more than doubled in a week, according to new numbers released Wednesday by the Sacramento County Registrar.

"Finally, after 40 years, our community made history today," Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen said on Tuesday night at Azteca Mexican Restaurant in Garden Grove. Nguyen's touching statement came as the Orange County Election Authority showed her leading in the Senate District 34 race at 62 percent of the vote by 10pm, with her Democratic rival Jose Solorio trailing behind at 38 percent. This is the first time the United States has had a state senator of Vietnamese descent. The state's 34th District includes parts of Long Beach and Orange County.

Republicans, who have already blocked a Democratic super-majority in the California Senate, have also succeeded in defeating a Democratic super-majority in the Assembly.

California Democrats were unable to regain their two-thirds legislative supermajority in the state Senate and lost ground in the Assembly, at least in part due to the victories of two Republican candidates from Orange County — both women, both Asian-American. A new Public Policy Institute of California poll reveals that the huge lead California Governor Jerry Brown holds over his challenger, Neel Kashkari, can be attributed to one salient factor: Brown’s massive lead among Latino voters. Sandra Fluke, the controversial birth control advocate who became an icon of women's rights during the 2012 presidential election, has pulled out of the race to replace retiring Rep. Henry Waxman in California's 33rd congressional district.
