ur post is bang on target. These stupid politicians just need an opportunity to increase their votebanks.I personally feel what the police did was correct and such lathicharges r required against such hooligans who blackmail their bosses.Reformation of labour laws is urgently required to prevent trade unions being formed.

It is this hurdle if crossed will ensure double digit growth.

literacy is the only cure to all this.

the PRESENT congress party is pro-israel and definitely pro-US but the commies are exactly opposite.Because the commies gave support to the congress(which acc to them is more secular than bjp)during elections, the congress has to listen to them but that is limited to domestic affairs only and not the foreign policy. And our present foreign policy is a continual of the bjp's foreign policy.

India needs arab oil and hence needs to "support the palestinian cause"(which is NOT the destruction of isreal but the settlement of the dispute and even the bjp did it)Every nation which requires oil uses this diplomacy.
Plus india has a huge immigrant population in Arabland so this diplomacy makes sense. At the same time india is having very good relations with israel.

And talking of being pro-hitler,yes there are a few nutcases (modi, thackerey)but these guys r pro-israel[nothing to do with anti-semitism].Also,India has a pretty decent jewish population.

    conclusion:
1)india's foreign policy in the past 6-7 years has been quite perfect.
2)The commies continue to be a pain in the a$$ but r strictly involved in domestic policies and not the foreign policy.
    3)The congress party is pro-US & pro-israel
    commies - exactly the opposite.

fuel is a big big problem in this world. On top of that, the worst possible countries are oil rich(the entire gulf, venezuela, nigeria etc). There is no other option for india but to get oil and gas from iran. But the terrain through which the pipeline is going to pass is something to bother about + paying the pakis a lot of transit fee(which is ultimately goin to be used to buy weapons against india)is not worth it.We can have a pipeline underwater bypassing pakiland but would be more expensive .

what happened in 1984 and in 2002 was horrible no doubt abt tht.
But u need to take into consideration how diverse the country is and how many religions r flourishing in it.
Also india is a young country compared to others.

My point is that these things happen sometimes and what u can best do is prevent it from happening again.

I am an Indian and am proud of the democratic setup of my country(the only one in the region).

well it would be difficult for them to integrate italian ,french and other european systems into a chinese aircraft.COst is another factor. We'll probably wait and see what they do but what i feel is that this aircraft is being purchase by pakis for the foll. reasons:-

    1]BVR capability
2]No other option available hence china as the last option to buy aircraft
    3]Really REally cheap

J-10 will be a better aircraft than JF-17.
JF-17 was primarily built by the chinese for export to third world countries like pak, bangladesh etc.

And i wouldn't worry much abt chinese made stuff. Not reliable at all!!!

What North Korea and Iran are to the United states,Pakistan is to India. So its but obvious India wouldn't like the pakis getting any military hardware from the USA.
The F-16's are nuke delivery systems which is the major concern .It is a fact that the pakis r gonna use them against India whreas India needs to buy stuff as a deterrent to China.

The IAF need not worry abt the JF-17's .They have chinese avionics!!

"There's not a chance India will become the most developed by 2050. The sheer scale of the project is too large, there are hundreds of millions there who live in staggering poverty."

"It can happen, indeed, but as econ_grad points out it will be a matter of political will. India is astride a mountain of economic potential and the western powers realize this. The issues of staggering poverty are in direct proportion to the staggering bureaucracy that stifles India's economy. If India were to adopt a Hong Kong style economy this year then we'd see India's economic growth in double-digits for years to come.

The only thing holding India back from being a global economic superpower is India. China embraced change and is prospering. If India adopts a proven economic model and allows her people to succeed unfettered by a stifling and corrupt government then India will *surpass* China because Indian people have the innate ability to innovate. The Chinese are masters at copying other people but India has the potential within her people to succeed and create things unknown.
China will never surpass the West but India might."

Hong kong is the most open economy in the world. It will take some time for india to open up completely but it is taking steps slowly and cautiously.

The biggest problem india has is its politicians who go to the lowest possible extent using caste and religion to gain votes. The reason y India has so many slums is because they r the largest vote banks for our politicians.

The other problem is faulty delivery systems.Every year, lots of money is allocated to poverty alleviation programmes and subsidies. But only a small fraction of it actually reaches the poor.Where the rest goes,u bet!

But there r a few advantages too.
    1]It is a democracy
2]It has a much better financial sector compared to china
3]India,even though it lacks worldclass infrastructure is one of the most favoured tourist destinations around the world. The reason being its hospitality and unique culture.

"They(indians) may speak English but it is bloody impossible to understand what they are saying."

India is a very diverse nation and every region has its own language.Though they speak english too(part of syllabus)but with their traditional accent.

Most of the BPO centres in india are located in Bangalore which is in South india. Those people have a very heavy accent(tamil, kannad etc)hence r really difficult to understand.I live in Mumbai(india) and i too find it difficult to understand what they speak. The others having a heavy accent are the Bengalis.Otherwise the rest of us are quite normal(though we dont have an accent like urs)and easy to understand.

So its the US companies that r to blame and not the indians.

well for india, the biggest criteria for purchasing weapons is better(or even best) technology.Russians have really improved their tech and they are cheaper(and sometimes better) than the western tech.

and anyways india has the option to buy from any nation it chooses(except china ofcourse).

And regarding relations, china and india definitely have better relations than what they had a few years ago and their trade is improving. But trade always is not a major indicator in good relations.
    take for instance
    1)china-usa trade=$210 billion
    2)china-japan trade=$240 billion (somewhere close)
