Battleship Texas served both in WWI and WWII.

It is finally getting much needed repairs.

I’ve been on it a couple of times after visiting the San Jacinto Monument.

    I’m voting today for Paxton.

I’ve told George P a few times he needs to go home to Mom and Dad bc he is no Texan, and will never be accepted
as one, especially after his mangling of the Alamo issue.

Because during Covid last year churches were shut down, and we were not happy that our governor and local entities did that us. So a proposal to the state Constitution was put to the voters, and passed.

I asked the same thing on Twitter.

He has stated this issue will be handled in the next Special Session which is about to start, and no private business in Texas will be made to comply. He has issued an Executive Order that citizens chose whether to get the vaccine, not the government.

Many of us in Texas got very fed up with Abbott and his legalese edicts that often infringed on basic rights and left us to fight local authorities during 2020 while he sat back and twiddle his thumbs and refused to call the Legislature into special session to help deal with the pandemic. Because of that he is now trying really hard to get back in voters’ good graces. I welcome Colonel West’s candidancy.

Why do Northerners melt when temps get above 80 degrees and resort to opening fire hydrants for relief?

In Texas 80 degrees is a walk in the park bc we typically have 100+ temps with 100% humidity for weeks on end and we don’t open fire hydrants to cool off.

Weather extremes work both ways and reactions depend on what you are used to.

It has been a while since I have posted on FR but I couldn’t pass this up.

As a Texan who just went through this abysmal failure by ERCOT in keeping Texans supplied with electricity, I could careless Cruz went to Cancun.

No sane person in Texas is holding that trip against him.

It is the media stirring the pot and liberals piling on that are trying to create a mountain out of a molehill.

Actually many of us voted against him, specifically because of his plans for the Alamo.

However, we have so many foreigners from other states who have moved here and don’t have a clue what this guy has been doing. So with Trump’s endorsement and his famous name, he got re-elected.

I’m going to find out what his Democrat opponent thinks about his handling of the Alamo. If his position is any more conservative than Bush’s I am strongly considering voting for that Democrat in the general election.

Patterson was formerly the Land Commissioner, and has gotten fed up with what JEB! JR. is doing with regards to the Alamo. The Alamo issue is a hot potato issue for native Texans.

Patterson is a former Marine and Texas Aggie. I’m not sure why he chose to vote for Hillary.

However, he did a decent job as Land Commissioner for his 3-4 previous terms.

I voted at noon (NW Harris County), and there were 4 of us in there to vote at that time. I didn’t see anyone entering the Democrat side.

I voted against George P. Bush. I’ve actually emailed him and told him to go back to Florida. Unfortunately, so far he hasn’t listened to me.

  • GOP Reps. Ted Poe, Frank LoBiondo announce retirement

Ted Poe was a no-nonsense judge who didn’t like criminals and he usually handed out some pretty creative sentences.

When elected he started out as a strong conservative, but has had a few questionable stances in recent years. I’m not sure I would classify him as a RINO but he has lost some of his conservative staunchness. He has always been pro 2A and pro-life.

I would still take him over a true RINO or a Democrat. I think all-in-all it would be considered a loss by most conservatives.

The district he represents votes Republican, so I would think he could be replaced by another. However, there are many moving here from other states that are liberal, so there might be a fight to keep the seat.

    Texas56 to hiho hiho

I can relate to this article.

We left a larger church (1500 on Sundays) where we attended 18 years for a smaller church (400 on Sundays). The size of the church wasn’t the issue, but the “worship” service had become a problem.

When we first began attending our old church we had an orchestra and choir and decent Bible teaching.

Then in a drive to become “relevant” to the community the choir and orchestra disappeared and we got a loud rock band with mood lighting followed by a 20 minute “talk” sometimes without even using the Bible. The relevancy brought in new people, but others left frustrated with how the “worship” service had become about the 45 minute rock concert with a manic drummer and guitarists showing their skills by ripping Led Zeppelin runs in the middle of a “worship” song.

We also finally left. It took us a while to find our current church. It also meant sitting out of church for while until we found one that concentrated on scripture. It is a smaller church without a glitzy rock band or mind-numbing repetitive phrases to sing.

Our new pastor teaches for a solid hour in exegesis format. Our songs are a mixture of hymns and praise songs that incorporate Bible truths.

The new church is not glitzy and not on TV but our pastor delivers solid biblical teaching twice a week.

What a refreshment to our souls this has been.

  • Maps show what Harvey's impact would look like in other U.S. states

I think the reason they made that graphic is most people don’t understand what constitutes the “Houston area” in size. I’ve seen this on several social media platforms, and people are amazed at the land size in comparison to other geographic areas.

I’m a native Houstonian and live in the impacted area. I also have weathered TS and hurricanes going back to Hurricane Carla in 1961, but this one even has natives amazed at how wide spread it was, the relentlessness of the rain, and the sheer volume of water it dumped.

  • Texas coastal residents urged to leave in 'strongest possible terms' as Hurricane Harvey...

    08/24/2017 2:39:35 PM PDT · 81 of 132
    Texas56 to VA40

It depends on how far inland this storm goes. They are saying it may hover around the coastline and then go back out, and then re-enter near Tx/La border.

If that is the case, Austin will get some rain and will probably be fine.

However, watch the weather if they change their predictions, and if it looks to be heading north rather than hanging out near the coast, get stocked up on water, batteries for flashlights (or have camping equipment on hand), non-perishable foods, money just in case there is loss of electricity and cards don’t work, and have gas for your car just in case you need to evacuate to even higher ground.

If the hurricane does what they are currently predicting, then Austin will be fine, but Houston will get lots and lots and lots of rain, then will flood, then we will be without electricity for numerous days, and I’ll be doing a lot of grilling.

As a native Texan and resident NW of Houston I have been through this drill multiple of times but all the storms are different. So I’ve stocked up on money, gas, water, food, propane for the grill, and gas for my generator. If we escape the predicted possibilities, then no big deal. However, if we get the dirty side as they are predicting and lose electricity, then hopefully we are prepared.

Remembering past storms I’m hoping I’ve prepared enough.

After Hurricane Ike (2008), which was a direct Galveston hit. The whole Houston/Galveston area was without electricity for weeks, our area in NW Harris County was without electricity 2 weeks, while some people further inland were without electricity for 3 weeks. Food, gas, and water became scarce commodities and even though I had stocked up I had not anticipated 2 weeks without electricity so not only did my supplies begin to run out but store shelves were empty and I couldn’t replenish. I was thankful we had the foresight to buy a generator which gave us some measure of relief from heat with fans and it kept the things in my refrigerator cool enough so they didn’t go bad; without it those 2 weeks would have been an absolute nightmare.

With TS Allison (2001) (also a direct hit) we only lost electricity for a day but because it stalled and dumped water over the area then Houston flooded.

Hope this helps. Keep your feet dry and your boat ready!
