State Department warns of ‘security threat’ in Playa del Carmen, popular resort city in Mexico

Citing a security threat, the State Department has closed its consular office in a popular Mexican resort city and warned Americans to “consider this information” before traveling to the area.

The State Department on Wednesday night issued a security alert for Playa del Carmen, a tourist draw on the Caribbean coast, saying the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City had received “credible information” about a threat to the city.

Until recently the various Mexican drug cartels had some rule of engagement in the popular tourists spots in the Yucatan so as not to threaten the tourist industry. But now open warfare has broken out as some the leaders of existing cartels have been removed and new cartels are trying to force their way in.

Beautiful place. I’d hate to see this happen.

Same thing in Los Cabos over in Baja. Used to be very safe and tourist friendly. I’d go there every other year. Now it’s drugs, gang fighting, murders, pretty messed up.

We liked a week in Ixtapa every winter when we lived in MN.
Get on the airplane in 20 degree chill.
Three hours later, sunny and 80 !

It was definitely beautiful some years ago (circa '98) when we made a cruise stop there. Back in '93 we also did a week at Cancun for a belated honeymoon and it was very nice.

Wouldn't set foot in Mexico these days...

I first went to Playa del Carmen about 1984 when I was just out of high school. It was a quite fishing village with nice shops and brick layed streets. The cruise ships would stop off there and say it was Cancun. So there was lots of money but quite at night. Great snorkling at a bay (Akumal?) about 45 minutes by bus towards belize. I’ve been there over a dozen times, I would not go back. Not even to anywhere in Mexico. Build the wall or it will all come here.

Every time you hear some wide-eyed moron talking about “family-oriented, hard-working Mexicans who do the work Americans won’t do,” remind him that this is the culture that they want to import wholesale.

We have to stop voting for Bush League Republicans who are hell bent on turning the USA into North Mexico.

I was there in January. In Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. It was fine. You just need to be careful where you go.

Acapulco & Puerta Vallarta have already lost the cruise ships stopping there. How many other coastal cities have to lose business before Mexico cleans up ist’s act.

Of course, by sending back illegals who have received more education here than they could EVER get south of the border and job training =—the same— perhaps Mexico can get itself cleaned up. Won’t happen in MY lifetime, but MAYBE this could happen. Tourism is a very big economic part of Mexico’s economy. They cannot ignore this for very long.

I wish Texans had started this process by voting Jorge P. Bush out of office, before he uses his Land Commission job as a starting point to leapfrog into the US Senate or (God forbid) a run for the White House. The Bushes seem to be counting on La Raza Jorge to succeed where his father Jeb failed.

My first trip to PDC was in 1989. We stayed further south in Akumal, a dive town. At that time, PDC had a guard shack on the main road with a 3-4” rope thrown across the road to slow cars down. Now there’s about 8 traffic lights and express lanes on 301 the main road. I was in Puerto Aventuras in July 2017 for a couple of weeks and we went up to PDC to see some old places we used to eat. I told my wife, never again will we come to PDC. We rented houses there about 6-7 times in the 90’s early 00’s and it was really nice. So sad to see it turn into such a schiff hole.

Me too.
Apparently Texans are OK with him taking over the Alamo and turning it into a monument for Mexican victory.

The main reason I'm no longer interested in going there isn't because it has become more dangerous (though it has), but because it has gotten much more expensive. An offshore fishing or scuba charter out of PDC costs almost as much as one out of the Florida Keys, so why bother? The whole point (for me) of going there was to enjoy the ocean for a fraction of what it costs in more civilized places.

I went there recently. It was mostly all great. However, there WAS an incident where I was at a bar and I had my pack on the next seat and some people came up and I picked up the bag in case they wanted to sit and one guy goes “oh yeah, peek up your bag. Mexico is nation of thieves, yes?” I was like, oh, no I just picked it up in case you wanted to sit down. “ohhh because otherwise it would be rooooooode, huh? I just clammed up and it didn’t escalate, but it could have, quickly.

We will not have to this Mexican $hithole to experience violence.

Thanks to liberal mayors in control of Sanctuary Cities!

We can go to Oakland, Gay Frisco, LA, Portland, Seattle, Chicago, NYC, ????, and we could be hurt or killed in an act of violence by an illegal or illegals.

ICE’s Dire Warning About Sanctuary Cities:

ICE’s Dire Warning About Sanctuary Cities True Daily Staff March 8, 2018 News 2 Comments
Acting director of Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) Thomas Homan said Thursday on “Fox & Friends” that “more people are going to die” as a result of sanctuary city policies.

Homan criticized Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf for interfering with ICE officers and said radical views on immigration are a danger to public safety.

“[Schaaf] let the criminal aliens that we had targeted for arrest, gave them an advanced notice law enforcement was coming for them. And many criminal aliens were not apprehended because of that warning,” Homan said. “I can’t put a specific number on it but a lot of criminal aliens were not found because they were given advance warning by the mayor, which increased a public safety issue in her area. We’ve got criminal aliens walking around that community that are now in hiding because of her warning.”

Homan believes the existence of sanctuary states and cities will ultimately end up costing lives.
