Fences are making a major comeback in America, Europe, Asia and the rest of the globe. Some, like Donald Trump’s proposed fence along the United States-Mexico border, are literal. Others, like China’s currency manipulation, are figurative. But they all serve a common purpose: preserving national interests and deterring domestic threats. These fences evidence a major global trend: the rise of nationalism. They manifest a growing shift away from globalization, and toward self-interest. Nations are focusing more on protecting their own economies, their own manufacturing industries, their own people and their own cultures—because of uncertain and unstable global socioeconomic conditions. Bishop Castle, 46 years in the making, which one man dedicated his life to building, has been turned over to a new owner. A frequent visitor of the castle and friend of the creator is now in charge but the family who built the attraction says they were conned into signing over the deed. The creator of the castle, Jim Bishop, has been fighting a rare form of cancer for the past few months and his family now feels like they've been taken advantage of.

The market for Mexican marijuana has dried to a whiff and “everybody and his mother” is growing their own product, says a Puebloan who has been selling pot here for more than 20 years. - The current legal recreational market is fueled by people from out of state, Tracy said. Colorado users, weary of the high taxation on the product, have taken to growing, getting their “red card” for medicinal marijuana or even using Craigslist to score pot. - See more at: http://www.chieftain.com/news/3292183-120/marijuana-tracy-market-dealer#sthash.D9Z5fiLF.dpuf

DENVER — The attorney for Anthony Waller, the shackled inmate who was seen on surveillance cameras being slammed into a wall by a Denver Sheriff’s deputy during a hearing before a judge in 2012, has filed a lawsuit over the incident. The lawsuit in U.S. District Court names the city and county of Denver, Deputy Brad Lovingier, Capt. Gina McCall and the Denver Sheriff’s Department. A news release sent by attorney Kenneth Padilla on Wednesday says Waller was “shackled in handcuffs, leg irons, and belly chain” when Lovingier “without provocation, grabbed Mr. Waller by his shackles, spun him around and...

DENVER — Hours before the polls closed Tuesday and Bob Beauprez was quickly declared the winner of Colorado’s GOP gubernatorial primary, he speculated that the Democratic effort to tip the race to Tom Tancredo may have backfired. A day later, it’s crystal clear that that is indeed the case

Eight weeks after police reopened the investigation into Ashley Fallis’ 2012 death, there are more questions and new accusations of misconduct concerning the Evans Police Department.snip“They will do whatever it takes to solve a crime the way they want to solve it,” said the former officer. “If you complain and tell the truth against the culture you’re retaliated against. If you’re asked questions and if you’re caught at something you deny, deny, deny."

The crisis revolves around the Euphrates River, which quickly became the Euphrates Creek when Turkey completely cut off the water flow upstream of Syria, reported Al Akhbar on May 30. The Euphrates originates in Turkey and passes through the Atatürk Dam before flowing into Syria and Iraq. By cutting off the flow and directing it into the reservoir, Turkey has lowered water levels downstream

A recent Pueblo Chieftain article about the recall effort of state Sen. Angela Giron quoted the senator as stating she believes that effort is in part, racially motivated due to her Mexican heritage. I believe that Ms. Giron is using the race card to distract the voters in District 3 from the facts that have been the basis for the recall effort. The senator, as well as many in District 3 believe that the whole recall issue is about the gun laws she supported. Those gun laws are simply the match that lit the fuse. - See more at: http://www.chieftain.com/opinion/1349206-120/giron-pueblo-recall-senator#sthash.n5G10wZn.dpuf
