    There has been much media talk of need to abolish the Electoral College and go forth with the popular vote only. A couple of thoughts on this issue with the understanding that the U.S. is a republic and NOT a democracy: (1) Minority views are espoused, defended and recognized loudly, regularly, and legally through such organizations as NAACP, ACLU, gay & lesbian groups, anti-religious groups, etc. The main theory of such organizations is that the minority groups must not be trod upon by the wicked mean majority (generally the conservative right wing).
