Today in Odd History, President Jimmy Carter was attacked by a rabbit during a fishing trip in Plains, Georgia. The rabbit, which may have been fleeing a predator, swam toward his boat, "hissing menacingly, its teeth flashing and nostrils flared." President Carter was forced to swat at the vicious beast with a canoe paddle, which apparently scared it off. Upon his return to the White House, Carter told his staff about the furry amphibian's assault. Most of them refused to believe him, insisting that rabbits can't swim (although since most mammals can swim, there's no reason to believe that rabbits...

Buffett slams dividend tax cut One of world's richest calls plan 'voodoo economics,' says it puts burden on low-income families. May 20, 2003: 10:41 AM EDT NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Renewing his criticism of the dividend tax cut laid out by the Senate last week, Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffett called the proposal "voodoo economics" that uses "Enron-style accounting." The Senate's plan for dividends to be 50 percent tax free in 2003, 100 percent tax free in 2004 through 2006 and then face the full tax in 2007 would "further tilt the tax scales toward the rich," Buffett wrote in an...

The Massacre of Withdrawing Soldiers on "The Highway of Death" by Joyce Chediac I want to give testimony on what are called the "highways of death." These are the two Kuwaiti roadways, littered with remains of 2,000 mangled Iraqi military vehicles, and the charred and dismembered bodies of tens of thousands of Iraqi soldiers, who were withdrawing from Kuwait on February 26th and 27th 1991 in compliance with UN resolutions. U.S. planes trapped the long convoys by disabling vehicles in the front, and at the rear, and then pounded the resulting traffic jams for hours. "It was like shooting fish...

I just wanted to put in my two cents worth. The elections scare me due to their importance. The democrats will try everything in their arsenal of tricks. You know the normal we are racist, mean and want to kill old people, keeping polls open in rat districts, hanging chads, yadda yadda. The democrats want control of the house and senate. I have not heard much on the races around the country. The media has not weighed in for the rats as of yet. But they will. Repubs need to win the Senate back from the people that want to...

I have personally apologized to Constitution Day for the article I posted earlier today. I am now apologizing to all that read it. I posted it only for discussion. I have seen worse on FR and thought it would be fine. The title of the article was Destruction of America. It had alot of Jew Bashing. As I told Constitution Day, many of my friends and colleagues are Jewish. I respect them highly. ONCE AGAIN SORRY.

Last week, this paper said that Israeli writer Barry Chamish should follow up his fanciful 2000 book, The Last Days Of Israel with a nonfiction sequel - The Last Days Of America. And he can follow that with The Last Days Of Bush And Cheney - if he acts fast so the book hits market before their regime crumbles. Last Sunday, the British "mainstream" media openly speculated that Cheney might have to be dumped from the ticket for 2004 - due to his involvement in accounting scandals while a Halliburton executive; for instance, the London Telegraph even ran a long...

Hey Freepers. I have been debating with my liberal friends on things such as taxes, Israel/Palestine, UN, et. All they do is repeat the same bilge. It is hard talking to them so I have had it up to my neck with it. They are nice people but damn they are liberal. They always say republicans are crooks, tax cuts on the backs of he poor yada yada yada. Does anyone else get the same reaction? Also, when does crap like this enter their head? Childhood? College?

I have not been following the news as close as I usually do but I have not heard Harken or Halliburton ad nauseum lately. What is the scoop?

All day and all night, we hear that we need new and stronger accounting standards. If the media were consistent, they'd be screaming for the head of the senator who led the fight to relax our accounting standards in the mid-90s. But that senator, Christopher Dodd of Connecticut, is a liberal Democrat, so he gets a pass in the mainstream press. He won't get such a pass here, however. Not when we're engaged in a relentless pursuit of the truth. Dodd authored the legislation liberalizing all these accounting rules. He had Republican co-sponsors, but he was the impetus, and he...

I need some help from the freepers. I am having a debate with a friend of mine on the Palestinian Jew situation. And the debate is whose land is it. I have done modest research but I need some Freepers to give me some insight. Links to articles would help. Thanks to all.

DENVER - Poudre High School's decision to play the World anthem for its graduation ceremony sparked an angry reaction from a parent who wanted to hear the national anthem and stirred a dust-up on talk radio this week. Gail Wagner, whose daughter graduated May 24, wrote a letter to the school principal, the district superintendent and the Denver Rocky Mountain News calling the anthem "an insipid little song about a world of peace and love" and an insult to America. She said it took the place of the national anthem. It did not, said Poudre High Principal Sandra Lundt. Lundt...

She hasn’t attended one single day of the trial. She hasn’t read one deposition. She hasn’t asked the Fulton County District Attorney any questions regarding the case … but suddenly Coretta Scott King is interest in the murder trial of H. Jamil Rap Abdulla Yadda Brown Yadda Al-Amin. Coretta says that all of the inconsistencies brought forth at the trial should be “explored and fully investigated.” So, there you have it folks. It’s “Coretta’s Rule.” Anytime different witnesses bring forth conflicting testimony at a trial all trial proceedings should halt so that the inconsistencies in the testimony can be fully ...

Islam has been in the news for the last twenty years, and almost always for the wrong reasons. Before the days of MTV and Charles and Diana, Islam, its people, nations, and activities were usually relegated to brief "world news" segments of the network newscasts. Besides the fact that the Islamic holy book is called the Koran (Now - with our celebration of multiculturalism - the Q¹uran), the prophet is Mohammed, and Islamic nations seemed to fight a lot with Israel, few of us knew anything of any great importance about the world of Islam. Even with the Islamic ...

An Open Letter to George W. Bush from Michael Moore Dear George, When it's all over in a couple months, and you're packing up your pretzels and Spot and heading back to Texas, what will be your biggest regret? Not getting out more often and seeing the sights around Rock Creek Park? Never once visiting the newly-renovated IKEA in Woodbridge, Virginia? Or buying your way to the White House with money from a company that committed the biggest corporate swindle in American history? I got a feeling you didn't miss much by not spending an entire Saturday afternoon assembling a ...

Yesterday we told you how Jesse Jackson loaded up three busses in Houston with ex-employees of Enron for the trip to Washington to petition Congress for taxpayer money. We also asked if Jesse was actually riding on the bus or had flown to D.C. Well we found the answer last night when TV showed the Rev. at the State of the Union address...while the Enron employees were on a bus probably somewhere in Tennessee or Alabamastan. We now find that another group of Enron employees are represented by none other than Johnnie Cochran. And who hired him? Well, it is ...

Doubtlessly, many other government-school teachers have hired their students for odd jobs. It's what kind of "job" Dennis Peterson hired a student of his for that got him in trouble. Sometime last November, Peterson - then a teacher at the Sequim Community High School in Sequim, Washington - offered one of his students a job; according to evidence during his weeklong trial in which he was convicted last week, he offered her modeling work as a porn star - promising she would make thousands of dollars when he sold the photos on the Internet. Unfortunately for Peterson, the student told ...
