This month, about half (47 percent) of Republican female primary voters said they could not imagine themselves voting for Trump. (About 40 percent of male GOP primary voters said the same.) Compare that to their relative willingness to accept Trump's rivals. Only about three in ten female Republican voters say they can't imagine backing Ted Cruz (32 percent) and John Kasich (27 percent). The poll, which was taken before Marco Rubio exited the presidential race, also showed that only 30 percent of GOP women couldn't imagine backing the Florida senator.

Why do they hate Ted Cruz so much? Well, yeah, partly it's because he's conservative. But why hate that? It's more than that. It's threatening. A Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group filed a complaint Monday with the Internal Revenue Service, urging the agency to investigate whether the Donald J. Trump Foundation Inc. made an illegal donation in 2013 to a political organization associated with Republican Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi while her office was reportedly considering whether to take legal action against Trump University for possible fraud.

Tonight’s GOP debate was Ted Cruz’s night. He went right after Donald Trump multiple times, but in a way that came across as forceful and informed, but not nasty. He also fended off a pretty vigorous attack from Marco Rubio. His strongest points came early and against Trump, when the audience would be the largest. Trump was runner-up. He had a good moment on Cruz’s slam on “NY Values,” but I’m not sure how defending NY values plays outside NY. His performance will confirm pre-existing views of him.
