  • Kremlin Says Russian ‘Volunteer’ Forces Will Fight in Syria

MOSCOW — Russia signaled deepening intervention Monday in the Syria war, strongly hinting that its “volunteer” ground forces would soon be fighting there, as NATO officials warned the Kremlin after a Russian warplane invaded Turkey’s airspace. The unfolding developments reflected a dangerous new superpower entanglement in the war, which has left a quarter-million dead and half the country’s population displaced since it began more than four years ago. The addition of Russia ground forces to the aerial assaults already underway by Russian warplanes particularly threatens to undermine Turkey’s Syria policy, which aims for the establishment of a “safe zone” along...

I don't work for the Cruz campaign, but I'm deathly afraid of the prospect of Cruz experiencing the same fate as the Walker campaign. Suggesting Cruz supporters who can pitch in a small ($20) donation for the campaign today, before the 30 September filing deadline... Here's a link I got in my inbox. Cruz/Trump Trump/Cruz

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released new Department of Justice (DOJ) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) documents that include an official “DOJ Recap” report detailing an October 2010 meeting between Lois Lerner, DOJ officials and the FBI to plan for the possible criminal prosecution of targeted nonprofit organizations for alleged illegal political activity. The newly obtained records also reveal that the Obama DOJ wanted IRS employees who were going to testify to Congress to turn over documents to the DOJ before giving them to Congress. Records also detail how the Obama IRS gave the FBI 21 computer disks, containing...

Today, many are cheering the end of an era in the South. As The New York Times reports, many see the lowering of the Confederate flag from outside South Carolina’s State House as “closing a chapter on a symbol of the Deep South and its history of resistance and racial animus.” [snip] Mohammed Elibiary: "Today is a new day in the South. Gone will be the Confederacy as we create the New South. Federalism & individual rights, no states' rights." [snip] Mohammed Elibiary: "States' rights was defeated with the Confederacy in the Civil War. USA has federalism and individual rights,...

Ames claimed that on the morning she returned from a two-month maternity leave in July 2010, the company refused to let her use its lactation rooms because its policy required mothers to complete paperwork seeking security access and wait three days for processing. She had been unaware of that requirement. A company nurse suggested she use a wellness room that was occupied at the time, but also cautioned that doing so might expose her milk to germs. Ames said she was in pain while waiting for that room to be vacated, when her supervisor informed her that she would be...
  • If politics is any guide, the Seahawks should win the Super Bowl

When the Seattle Seahawks face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday, more than a hundred million Americans will tune in to root for one side or the other, or maybe just to watch the commercials. Prognosticators have any number of ways of handicapping the matchup: Maybe defense wins championships, maybe it’s all about the run game or special teams, or maybe one superstar can take over a game. But from a political perspective, history argues the Seahawks have the advantage. That’s because their fan base looks much more like the American electorate than the Patriots’ fan...

A Papa John's delivery driver in Dekalb County, Georgia is worried that she might lose her job for defending her life earlier this week against a pair of armed robbers. When a woman delivering pizzas in DeKalb County was ordered to the ground by a man with a gun, she fired back. Armed with her own gun, she shot the man Sunday night, according to police. The employee of a Columbia Drive Papa John’s wasn’t injured, her mother told Channel 2 Action News. But the woman is worried the incident could get her fired because she carried her gun for...

--- SNIP --- Such measures may be too granular to satisfy the grandiose aspirations of those conservatives who, sharing progressives’ impatience with our constitutional architecture, aspire to have their way completely while wielding just one branch of government. But if, as is likely, the result of Congress doing these and similar things is a blizzard of presidential vetoes, even this would be constructive. The 2016 presidential election would follow a two-year demonstration of how reactionary progressivism is in opposing changes to the nation’s trajectory. Congressional actions provoking executive rejections would frame the argument about progressivism. And as Margaret Thatcher advised,...

While Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul tests the Republican waters for a possible White House run, Democrats are attacking, even this early in the nominating process, The Daily Beast reports. During the junior senator's recent three-day trip to Iowa, where the first presidential caucuses will be held in 17 months, the Democratic National Committee sent out 10 press releases about Paul's activities and speeches, the news site reports. A senior aide for Paul views the press releases in a positive light for the senator. "What it can tell you as a political observer is that they recognize what we're trying to...

San Francisco is a great American city. And Google is a great American company. But the two are having some trouble getting along. Last week, anti-eviction protestors surrounded one of Google’s private shuttle buses, which transport employees from their urban homes to the company’s suburban campus, and staged a phony incident in which an alleged Googler unleashed his contempt for the city’s lower orders. Then, just in time for the backlash to the anti-Google backlash, prominent local startup CEO Greg Gopman delivered the real deal in the form of a Facebook rant decrying the San Francisco poor as, in essence,...

I've received my Lotus Solstice-15 with upgraded 1080p display. These are built in the USA by a small company in Orlanda called LotusPC. I negotiated a fair deal and received one-on-one help from the owner of the company. He built the machine to our exact specifications, including the absence of an installed OS (for which we were not charged). This PC is of high-quality, on the order of a Panasonic laptop, in the $800-$1000 range. It's extremely solidly built with keypresses not moving the adjacent keys, has a keypad, and even the base i5 CPU screams. Running Ubuntu 12.10.

Looking to spend $400-$700 for a decent notebook to be used primarily for software development and graphics. Need some speed and horsepower, and durability. These things typically last me about five years, and this one here (a Sony Vaio) is nearing the end of the line. Brands you'd recommend? Lenovo is highly regarded but very, very Chinese. I'd like to stay away from that. And I hate Apple with a passion. This will be running Linux.

The race to the White House can be ugly and cruel, an inconvenient truth that rears its ugly head in U.S. politics every four years. Unfortunately, there will always be those who reserve pure, unadulterated hatred for anyone they disagree with. Nothing displays that fact more clearly than the dozens of horrific death threats made against GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney via Twitter, which were uncovered Sunday night. South Carolina attorney Todd Kincannon, who is also the former executive director of the South Carolina Republican Party, took notice of the intense hatred coming from the left and directed the threatening...
