I think it is pretty well proven. She said it on Good Morning America and again the last election. She does not think Roe should be overturned. She also said things about Gay marriage that it should be treated with sensitiity or something. Still - a very nice lady. Has a right to her own opinions.

My mom was a teacher and she too got complaints about Halloween parties from the Jehovah Witness parents - and some other religious group. The parents stayed to make sure she didn't read any stories about witches. I think you are right about Christmas programs too - that was also a problem.

Huh? My friends run their own businesses - resorts, car dealerships, and another a plastic mfg. business.I just think people here seem to think Canada is much different than what we see - people here move back and forth across the border all the time -we like each, why is that a bad thing? We can't get any doctors up here and are sharing some from Canada. I think Canada is a great neighbor, I love the people there, and we all seem to get along fine.

I agree - though I live in the US, we are on the Manitoba border, have many Canadian friends and go there often. No one I know even speaks French.I think this health care thing is overblown too - just because we wish to be better, doesn't necessarily make it so. My husband waited 7 months here to see a neurologist while fighting the insurance co here - my canadian friend waited 2 days. My Canadian friends are anything but poor - huge new homes. I don't wish to be Canadian, and I also don't wish to see things made to look worse than they are, just to make a point.

We got basically the same letter here in Minnesota. Our 4-H programs are really diminishing and it looks like a matter of time before they are just gone. We tried to keep them, but they aren't going to be funded.

Rescue is great, I do rescue too. However, I am fussier about placing my rescues, than puppies in as much the rescues carry baggage (was abused, bites, health issues) that I don't even know about. No, "breeders" aren't producing the rescues - they almost always come from
"puppy factories" - which breed numerous breeds for profit. Unfortunately, cute little dogs like Silky's are popular in a
puppy mill because they are good sellers. One way to best stop this, is to NEVER, under any circumstances, buy a puppy from a pet shop. Supply and demand thing - don't send in another request to the supplier (puppy mill). I don't exactly know silky breeders - but would guess that people that breed them for the love and improvement in the breed, have few litters, and usually waiting lists. Usually good
breeders require that if the dog is ever not wanted, it is returned to the breeder. You have no idea how much most breeders love their dogs and what they produce. Shelters are another story -- we do go get all of our own breed out of the shelters - those are the dogs you see in breed rescue. Unfortunately, we can't get all of the breeds, as
it is really hard to place some breeds. There is an enormous amount of black lab like dogs available -- and shepherd like dogs. Not many people can deal with dogs that size in a city and they are too much dog in size and energy for a lot of people. It is very easy to place a toy dog - . I don't know how to stop the production of the
lab mixes and shepherd mixes - but if anyone could think of
how to do it, it would be great. No one wants either of them. I don't know what to say of the price of purebred dogs -- you might be right that it is too much. What I can tell you is that there is no profit in it - vet costs are huge - testing etc, keeping dogs and feeding them premium food is a big cost. You may or may not agree with shows - but it is a way to insure that the puppy from the parents will actually look like the breed it is supposed to be.- show costs are substantial. What I can say - is that most
breeders are not making any money on their dogs - in fact they are usually running up big bills. After all of this - I still hope people rescue dogs - and know these are often
special needs dogs that need someone desperately. I wish everyone could go take in a black lab mix today!

I have quite a bit of experience in the pure bred dog world - showing and breeding. Be very careful about picking out your puppy, ask many, many questions, don't buy on the spur of the moment - this is a long term commitment, and you want a breeder that will be there for you through training, health
and personal problems. The breeder should talk about what happens to the puppy should you ever not want it (it shouldn't go to a shelter, it should go back to the breeder), the problems of the breed and if your family is right for the breed. (some breeds aren't good with children, or bark a lot and can't be in places where they will be a problem). I'd ask about longevity of the line,
references from other pet people that have bought dogs from the line - health problems in the line, temperament issues, who will pay if the puppy has genetic problems, how to groom the puppy, what kind of equipment is helpful.
Vet bills can become enormous very quickly - but can be avoided to some extent, if you do your homework first. Try
the parent club - and keep asking questions: http://www.geocities.com/silkyterrierclubofamerica/ Be in no hurry, and don't expect a puppy right away - wait on a list for the right puppy, from the right breeder. Good luck -- it will all be worth it in the end. Wonderful little dogs .

I want to know too. My son in law just returned from over there and has lost many friends there and in Afghanistan. He
thinks that those injured and killed should be on the news every night as America's heros. We should know they were real people, and matter.

We can go to the federal government and get some of the money back. Because right now, for each dollar that you spend on taxes, into the federal government, we only get 81 cents back. So I think there's a lot of room to negotiate for billions of dollars there.

The federal government should bail out CA???

But she isn't a mom. They are senior citizens that could never have any kids. It isn't like they are being asked for $20 here and there - but hundreds of dollars to update the buildings and add on. I don't know -- but it looks like she just can't afford this church. My elderly uncle in AZ is
upset that non catholics can dump kids in the catholic schools and expect him to pay for it. I just hear from Catholics that I know that they don't want to pay for educating all of these kids. Maybe I just know too many old people!

I live in a rural area where we are lucky to have any schools, and my kids are grown - but I don't understand the voucher thing. My friend goes to a Catholic church in a city and is so tired to being asked to constantly up her contributions to the church to finance the Church School. If more kids are put into the private church school system, will the congregation be able to keep up with the expenses?
Listening to my friend, she has really had it with paying for the school connected to her church. She is looking for a Catholic church that doesn't fund a school. Like I say - I have no experiences to have an opinion. I certainly can't imagine our little country churches paying to start a school.

No one wants factories? We'd kill for them here in the rural areas! N. Minnesota, ND - we desperately need population and have vast amounts of land. It is actually a great area to live in - why won't anyone consider us?

It might be ok, except that by giving them permission, it
opens one up to even more liability. We are already paying premiums of $1,000.00 a year to protect ourselves from lawsuits. There really some anger building among farmers over hunters - at least around here.
