A DEA agent accused of killing a cyclist in Salem while on duty had his case presented before a federal appeals court today in Seattle. At the center of today’s hearing was whether the agent could claim immunity from state prosecution because he was an on-duty federal agent. On March 28, 2023, Marganne Allen was riding her bike home from work in southeast Salem. Video from that day shows a black pickup truck running a stop sign moments before striking and killing the cyclist.

An older friend of mine inherited a house with a large flower garden in the back. The flower garden is maybe 10 feet by 30 feet. Between the flowers and the shrubbery there are many weeds (no surprise there). A landscaper she talked to will clear the area of weeds, and has given her some options to control future weed growth.

San Bernardino County deputies arrested multiple people for trying to steal from a freight train at the Cajon Pass in what resembled a scene from an old western movie. *snip* A San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokesperson said the unnamed suspects forcibly stopped the trains just before 5 p.m. to steal merchandise.

The bratty, traffic-hating teenage son of an Israeli diplomat, who was arrested for running over a police officer with his motorcycle, was beaten in a Florida jail Wednesday over a conversation about sausages. Avraham Gil, 19, returned to the Miami-Dade County jail to update his mugshot after he was sentenced to house arrest for striking a Sunny Isles Police Lieutenant on Jan. 27. While he waited in the jail’s holding cell, Gil was engaged in a bizarre discussion about sausages with another inmate, Blake Elvis Ermus, 32, when the teen was attacked, according to WPLG.

Beginning Monday, Pittsburgh police won’t respond to any calls that aren’t in progress emergencies. Chief Larry Scirotto wants to cut their call volume from approximately 200,000 calls per year down to about 50,000. That essentially means that calls for criminal mischief, theft, harassment and burglary alarms, just to name a few, will all be handled by the telephone reporting unit or online reporting.
