General Motors facing delays, software glitches in early days of EV transition

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV is an early step in General Motors' promise of an electric vehicle future.

"Our early experience in a Chevy Blazer EV has been anything but positive, sadly," said Alistair Weaver, editor-in-chief of Edmunds.com.

*snip*

"We took it into a Chevy dealer, asked them to have a look at it, and they came back with nothing short of 23 different error codes, which frankly is almost unheard of," said Weaver.

Here’s some bad news for folks who were hoping to get GM’s notorious lack of quality and an EV’s teething pains both in one vehicle:

“In the meantime, General Motors issued a nationwide stop-sale order on the vehicle December 22nd. Even if dealers have them, they can't deliver them to customers until GM solves the problem.”

Something like this is usually a problem with one of the vehicle networks, so multiple ECU’s are flagged as having problems.

The "early days of EV transition"?

LOL...nope. Based on everything I've read the past year, these are the End Days.

GM making garbage? I’m shocked, (pun intended).

Is it throwing an error code for a loose gas cap?

Ever hear of testing?

We can laugh, but for the taxpayers out here there is a lot of risk. Did you like the bailouts of Chrysler and GM in Chapter 11 last time? Then you are going to love it again. Except Ford will get in on the fun this time. If the government structures incentives that lead the automakers off the “transition” cliff and the timing is wrong (which it looks to be) - who do you think they will look to for a bailout?

GM should have been broken up.

And now the response from the head of GM’s quality control department:

Wealthy elitists buy Teslas to virtue signal. Complete fools who actually need a car buy GM and Ford EVs.

I think you’re right about that. As it is now, a stupid decision made by the head of GM affects every brand. If GM were broken up, there’d be a chance one of the brands might actually do something sensible.

As more people have bought EVs their popularity has dropped. The people who push them the most don’t own one and can’t afford them.

What can it mean?

The Japanese should have bought their trucks. And get rid of everything else.

Just about every GM I plug in to has 20+ codes in it.

Most are stupid stuff. License plate bulb, power mirror stuck (cold and covered in ice. Preset memory tried to move it) but GM systems love their codes.

Well, I don’t own one, can’t afford one, & WON’T own one. I would be the exact opposite of one who would push them. After some initial information right after day one of them going into production, I sensed this was a really bad idea. My mind remains unchanged about that.
