A Harvard Law professor who teaches a class on judgment wouldnÂ’t seem like an obvious mark, would he? It was just supposed to have been a quick Saturday-morning errand to buy picture hooks. On March 7, 2015, Harvard Law professor Bruce Hay, then 52, was in Tags Hardware in Cambridge, Massachusetts, near his home, when a young woman with long reddish-brown hair approached him to ask where she could find batteries. It was still very much winter, and, once the woman got his attention, he saw that underneath her dark woolen coat and perfectly tied scarf she was wearing a...

BROOKLYN, Ohio — A Cleveland boy led police on his second high-speed chase with police in 13 months, this time because his mother took away his PlayStation, police said. The boy was arrested after the crash and is being housed in the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center. Formal charges have not yet been filed. The 11-year-old boy stole his mother’s 2013 Dodge Durango about 10:45 p.m. Sunday after they got into an argument about his mother taking away his PlayStation, according to police reports. The mother went to bed. She later told police that she noticed her keys missing and...

Democrats are counting on Generation Z, many of whom recently gained the right to vote, to help turn Congress blue in the midterm elections. But 49 cents may be all it takes to keep these post-Millennials from exercising their civic duty. On Tuesday, a Fairfax County, Virginia official said they are noticing a disturbing trend: young people failing to mail in their absentee ballots because they don't know how to get a stamp. Lisa Connors, of the Fairfax County Office of Public Affairs, ran a focus group this summer comprised of colleges students interning in various county departments. "One thing...

This is funny. I would not have expected Mr. McCain to have comedic talent, but he did. RIP.

Netflix has inked a multiyear deal with the Obamas for original programming — but the content from the former First Couple will not have any political bias, according to chief content officer Ted Sarandos. “This is not The Obama Network,” said Sarandos, speaking Tuesday at the Paley Center for Media in New York. “There’s no political slant to the programming.” Sarandos was interviewed journalist Ken Auletta at the event. Noting that the Netflix exec is a Democrat, Auletta asked what he would say to Republicans about Netflix’s seeming push to the political left — including the appointment of former Obama...

A prosecutor in Poland is seeking the arrest of a Minneapolis man on allegations that he commanded a Nazi unit implicated in the deaths of 44 Poles. As reported by the Associated Press, prosecutor Robert Janicki said that "all the pieces of evidence interwoven together" in the yearslong investigation have confirmed "100 percent" that 98-year-old Michael Karkoc was a World War II commander of a unit in the SS-led Ukrainian Self Defense Legion, which is accused of burning villages and killing civilians in Poland. Prosecutors of the state National Remembrance Institute have asked a local court in Lublin, Poland, to...

FORSYTH, Mo. (KY3) -- "You know they ask you as a kid in school, what do you want to be when you grow up? And it was either major league baseball player or a police officer," says Deputy Darin Carter with the Taney County Sheriff's Office. The Kansas City Royals fan says unfortunately a career in the major league wasn't in the cards for him. However, Carter says for 12 years he has loved the excitement and opportunities to serve his community as a law enforcement officer. On September 16th, Carter was investigating a home in Hollister for a possible...

Full title: 'Reality has a way of asserting itself!' Condescending Obama says Trump can't keep his promises as he warns his successor's 'temperament' will be his undoing unless he 'corrects' it President Barack Obama delivered a series of patronizing backhanded compliments to President-Elect Donald Trump on Monday during a lengthy White House press conference conducted before his final trip abroad as America's leader. While he praised Trump for pulling off 'one of the biggest political upsets in history,' Obama scolded his Republican successor for believing he can deliver on his campaign promises. 'I think that he successfully mobilized a big...

I just received a really odd robocall. I didn't answer it, but heard the whole thing on the answering machine. It was Obama shilling for Chris Koster, talking about how he would raise the minimum wage, build on Obamacare, and protect Obama's legacy from the Republicans. At the end was the usual line that said it was paid for by some Democrat organization...then there was another statement that it was paid for by supporters of Eric Greitens. In SW MO, Koster's ads all portray him as a conservative. I heard that he runs different ads in Kansas City and St....

I have a new computer, on which I'm running Windows 10 and using Firefox version 45.0.2 as my browser. My FR account is set to "convenient," which is supposed to mean that I remain logged on even when I close my browser. But I keep finding that I'm logged when I close and later reopen Firefox. I don't have this problem on my other computers or my smartphone, so I'm thinking this is a Windows 10 or Firefox issue. Any ides as to what Firefox or Windows settings I need to adjust? Thanks.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A senior Mexican official has said legalizing cultivation of opium poppies for medicinal purposes might help reduce violence in one of the regions most affected by brutal drug gangs that have ravaged the country for years. Hector Astudillo, governor of Guerrero, one of the most violent states in Mexico, told Milenio television it was worth at least exploring the possibility of allowing cultivation. "Let's do some sort of pilot scheme," Astudillo, a member of President Enrique Pena Nieto's Institutional Revolutionary Party, told Milenio in an interview recorded last week but broadcast on Monday. "Provided it's used...

O.J. Simpson has spent the past eight years locked up in Nevada's Lovelock Correctional Center for his role in the 2007 armed robbery and kidnapping of a Las Vegas sports memorabilia dealer. He is not fairing well, his former business manager, Nick Pardo, tells PEOPLE exclusively. "He's a broken man," says Pardo. "He's really becoming a recluse and doesn't want to talk to anybody, including his own family." Adds Pardo, "He just wants to serve his time and part of him knows the only way to do that is to forget the outside world exists, which is hard to do...

PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) – The sound of children playing has become the subject of a lawsuit between two Plano homeowners. Kelly Counts placed a playhouse outside her backdoor for her four children enjoy. “One of the big reasons we chose the house was because we would be able to move this playhouse,†says Counts. But the mother says that laughter coming from her kids in their playhouse has been drowned out by music with raunchy lyrics coming from next door. “It’s unfathomable to me. I can’t imagine the sound of kids playing at any age or stage of my life and...

Our candidates are getting cheekier and cheekier… Has anyone noticed that our candidates are a little…sassier…this time around? Maybe we have Donald Trump to thank for this; perhaps it’s the advent of social media and the unfiltered nature of digital campaigns. Either way, it’s something to be thankful for, if only for its entertainment value. Last week, Hillary Clinton sent copies of her book, Hard Choices, to all of the Republican candidates...

My son, Cory, will leave our Northern California home to start college back East in the fall, prompting other mothers to offer condolences about my soon-to-be-empty nest. Though they expect me to break into tears, my overriding emotion when my youngest departs will be relief. I will finally be freed from the constant scrutiny of the ever-vigilant eco-warrior I raised. I can do nothing right in my teenage son’s eyes. He grills me about the distance traveled of each piece of fruit and every vegetable I purchase. He interrogates me about the provenance of all the meat, poultry, and fish...
