SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- An American footwear company has sparked disapproval on social media over high heeled shoes for babies.

Pee Wee Pumps says babies will be the "belle of the ball" in the shoes.

But the BBC reports people are criticizing the company amid a growing concern at what is seen as the sexualization of children.

This stikes me as silly, but essentially harmless. The little shoes are far less annoying than the ridiculous headbands all the babies on their web site are wearing.

Kids need good firm footing. Their ankles, legs, and joints are not developed enough for this sort of thing.

Some baby shoes are high profile for this purpose, to give their little ankles more support. It steady’s the whole body starting and the feet and ankles up.

I always put headbands on my granddaughter but she’s almost two now and pulls them off. I think they are adorable.

Ideally infants and toddlers should go barefoot as much as possible. Humans were not meant to wear shoes.. Yes, necessary in our civilized world but why rush into it?

It isn’t even functional. The heal bends under the shoe toward the toes if they stand on it. Beyond stupid for a pair of looks only high heal shoes.

I don’t think babies are actually supposed to walk in them.

How about this?

If the kid is doing okay, I don’t have a problem with it.

I do think there are always things around the home you don’t want the kid stepping on bare-foot. I know folks can kid-proof their home, but there’s always something going on to void that effort.

An animal can track something in or move something in a way that compromises the kid’s safety.

Young kids can also pull a toy’s wheels over their own feet and harm themselves. A plastic siding can be more sharp than you’d think if it slips past feet and toes.

At any rate, I’m not totally against your take, but I do think there are some things to think about.

Kids that age aren’t concerned about their looks.

It’s their parents that are obsessing over the hair.

My kids had very little hair when born, but it was of no consequence. We did buy a bonnet for my daughter that helped.

What is wrong with headbands?

I had very little hair when I was a baby. Mom always stuck a little bow on my head with a tiny piece of tape.

One day someone asked my dad how they kept the bow on. Without turning a hair he responds solemnly, "Straight pin."

I didn't obsess over my children. I do, however, obsess over my granddaughter. Of course, there was no Facebook when mine were little. 😆

LOL, that’s true.

I wouldn’t put my children’s faces on the internet for anything

With child sex slavery and child stealing being the norm for the elite in the country they of course infants should be “sexualized.” It raises their value to the trade.

Not trying to be mean here, but with the sick people out there these days, I would not put photos of the children in my family up on Facebook.

To some people those photos are like the old JC Penny and Sears and Roebuck catalogue only now for pedophiles.

It’s pretty easy to send photos to your desired group of people directly.

Headbands?!

I thought those things were tourniquets to prevent head bleeding. I wondered if they were for babies subject to falls.

Do you know any people who had a child stolen by someone who saw their picture on Facebook?
