I've been looking at motorcycles. I need something a bit more fuel efficient than my 1-ton pickup! There are two that I really like. One is an 09 Yamaha V-Star touring bike (not used, been sitting at the dealer) and the other is a Harley Fat Boy. Any recommendations?

  • Civil Disobedience - Burn the Census Form?

There's been a lot of talk on FR about "Civil Disobedience." Back when I was a kid, filthy disease ridden hippies burned their draft cards to protest against the Viet Nam War. Should we respond to Obamacare by burning our census forms in a public act of civil disobedience? Does anyone have any better idea?

  • Might purchase a Smith & Wesson M&P 45 ACP

My wife and I went gun shopping recently. I'm considering a Smith and Wesson MP 45. It will be my Birthday/Anniversary/Christmas present (although I'm hoping for a few boxes of ammo in my stocking). I'm cautious about weapons that include plastic in their construction. Does anyone here have any practical, long term, experience with this model?

This creature had been part of my life for almost 17 years. He wasn't exactly a normal cat. He was built like a medium sized dog. When he was healthy he weighed over 20 pounds. Today he weighed just over 10 pounds and was skin and bone. He had been sick on and off for about a year. Antibiotics helped but he never completely recovered. This morning he really looked bad. We called the vet and took him in. I already expected the worst. The vet said his temp was 92 F (normal is about 101). I expected him to...

Language changes. This cannot be denied. Due to one person's brave words we have a new change to our lexicon. Sheryl Crow, the 'one square wonder' has single handedly wiped the way clear the future of our communication. For instance; when things are getting shakey at work you should state that if everyone doesn't work together the "Crow's really gonna hit the fan." When someone startles you, tell them you nearly "Crowed your pants." Suppose you are playing poker. Your friend fails to disguise his glee at the hand you dealt to him. While holding your chips closer than your...

When you ask the question; "What song/band/music really sucks," you get an overwhelming response. If you don't believe me check this thread by LibKill http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1782474/posts It's harder to define the song you really like. Very rarely will someone be able to tell you their "favorite song." Usually they have a list broken down by genre or situation. Occasionally; someone will tell you "this is my favorite song, has always been and will always be my favorite song." Talk to them a week later and they say the same thing...about a differant song. Music is something everyone can identify with. It's...

This is a response I emailed to my brother regarding an email concerning the Marine response to the ACLU. Hey ********, This was not intended to offend you. And no; I never knew you were a card carrying member of the ACLU. If you agree with what the organization stands for then you should be a member. Concerning the email I sent you; what is not evident is that these Marines were in the formation by choice. We used to have "Prayer Breakfasts" (approximately once per quarter). Attendance was voluntary. They were usually free to junior enlisted. The ACLU cried...

I am an absentee voter registered in Westland Michigan. I am trying to find information about city council members. I've already tried Google and Dogpile. I checked the votesmart website but they don't have anything for city level elections. I couldn't even find biographies for the incumbents on the city website. My family members are very liberal and I don't feel they would be unbiased. I would rather not vote than make an uninformed choice. Can anyone point me to some helpful resources? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. God bless you all!

Getting into the world of firearms (print) September 27, 2005 Thanks for your following letter, Matt, which I received this afternoon: Do you think at some point you could write a column on some of the basics of getting into the world of firearms? Specifically, I'm looking for tips on acquiring weapons for home defense and hunting. While I'm not a survivalist weirdo, I have no intention of waiting for any level of government to ride to the rescue, should bad times come along. Since I have been hit with numerous requests (mostly post-Katrina) from people looking for that first...

I asked a question on a few threads. "Who is in a State Governor's chain of command?" "Who takes over when the Governor cannot or will not perform his or her duties." I know for sure that it is NOT the President of the United States. I joined the Air Force a looong time ago. I quickly learned I have a Chain of Command. If my immediate rater is gone (planned or not) or if my rater drops the ball I am required to pick up the slack. I may be mistaken but I think the civilian world works in...
