Bless you all for your prayers and encouragement. I hope you will understand if I cannot continue to post your comments on the parade article here. I will read them but cannot post them, I will send you an e-mail gratitude.
I ask your charity and understanding for the Archdiocese of Washington which has always generously sponsored this blog and been supportive of our conversations.
I also hope you will understand if I cannot explain why it was removed.
I am a loyal son of the Church and I love my Archdiocese.
Casuistry (Modern Catholic Dictionary):The theological science of applying general moral principles to particular cases of conscience. It began in the post-Apostolic age and found early expression in the penitential books, which dealt with a variety of moral failings and their appropriate forms of satisfaction. Later on came the Summas on Penance, which formed complete legal digests. St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787) systematized casuistry in modern times. Although the term has taken on some unsavory meanings, due mainly to critics of Roman Catholic moral practice, casuistry is an integral part of the Church’s moral tradition. Its purpose is to adapt the unchangeable norms of Christian morality to the changing and variable circumstances of human life. (Etym. Latin casus, case, problem to be solved.)
I was received (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist)) into the Church in 2009. I am probably one of the more traditionally minded in our small rural VA parish. What drew me into the Church, was not quite what I found. It seems that some in the Church are more interested in a worldly kingdom (social things), not a heavenly one(true conversion). Maybe the lack of pastoral challenge against our sinfulness keeps people away.
The homily at our church was about the Epistle to Philemon and accepting the Other. There was some off hand comment included about about certain elements of our area “thinking Hispanic’s were not supposed to be here.” Very weak, subtle push.
I think immigrants should obey the law first, regardless of sentiments.
