Not unlike the way GWB did - how else do you think a socialist who may or may not even be a US Citizen became President? Pay attention to the pendulum swinging back and forth, going further and further to extremes each time. I’m not convinced either “side” is better than the other, not when the best the GOP could do was McCain in ‘08.

One phenomenon that I have never experienced with such power, was a wave of cheering rushing from a long distance behind me up to and past me. It was actually frightening with its noise level and speed. You actually could feel it as well as hear it. Was really incredible. I have never felt or heard anything like it at professional football or basketball games.
Me, too!! THAT was powerful! I live near Penn State and always enjoy the, "We Are..." followed by, "Penn State!" that breaks out spontaneously and is ALWAYS answered. That's the closest I've ever come to something like this. I was laughing and calling it an enthusiasm wave.

    Absolutely awesome! Thanks, Donna.

Update: His response to my multiple links showing liberals using the term was, “You and I both know that anytime the human is involved in a system there are issues. What’s the alternative?”

ROFL As for those who suggest ditching this guy, well, he’s just a facebook friend, someone I knew back in high school. I took him to my freshman dance :) And, unlike many of my former friends who are raging liberal dumb@sses, I actually do not believe in ditching friends due to their political beliefs. I may scoff, point fingers, laugh, and hold them up as what NOT to do, but in the end, I know that people are people... some are just more confused, stupid, and easily mislead :P

Not everyone can be as smart as the FReepers!

I grew up in Southern California in an area seemingly full of Jehovah’s Witnesses with several in my classroom throughout elementary school. Those kids simply sat at their desks while everyone else stood to say the pledge. I recall asking one of the girls why she didn’t stand and she said it was against her religion to say the pledge. I said, “Oh, interesting. Let’s go play!” and that was it. I didn’t find it too weird or unacceptable.

However, I also remember in 5th grade when the day came that the boys were taken outside for a game of kickball and the girls had to stay inside for a “talk” from the school nurse (with samples that we then had to try and hide from the boys). The boys were BURNING UP with curiosity when they came back inside about why we couldn’t go with them to play, what had happened that they’d missed out on, etc. - separating the groups had a HUGE effect on everyone. The girls were mortified and the boys were intrigued. I imagine separating out the pledge-sayers from non-pledge-sayers in such a fashion has a similar effect on the kids; the creation of absolute division. And I also imagine there are several kids who are NOT stepping out to say the pledge b/c they feel pressured into not going or vice versa.

Marbles? To promote an active lifestyle?? How many calories per hour can one lose when shooting marbles anyway?? Hmmmm... I’m guessing that one falls off the list when the kids start playing for keepsies and some sore loser (who believes all of life must be fair) loses his favorite cat’s eye. Heaven forbid he learn the lesson that life sometimes sucks and you should only take risks when you are truly prepared to live with the consequences.

lol, my friends are all homeschoolers - I despise public school. My exchange student has to go as part of her program and my stepson has to attend for reasons that are not worth going into in this thread, but I homeschool my 9 year old and intend to homeschool my 2 year old.

I do know a person who teaches at the high school, though (my kids’ baseball coach) - maybe I’ll give him a call before asking the administration what happened to the pledge.

  • Supporters See Sarah Palin As Key To Values Voters As Well As Women

“Now we finally get to hear from a normal woman.”

I don’t think she’s all that “normal” to be honest. I know very few women who are overseeing a household with 5 children (one being newborn), running marathons, attending kid activities AND holding top position in a state job. Politics is all about the look presented. I’m guessing she has a couple of nannies and/or “mother’s helpers” around - either that, or her hubby is the ultimate Mr. Mom when he’s not working oil fields or racing.

Trust me, I have 4 children, I homeschool and I work from home. Most days, my work suffers terribly because children are more important. “Having it all” is an illusion.

All that being said, I love the IDEA of Mrs. Palin, but let’s be real - how much power does a veep have anyway? What has any veep ever really done for the American people besides smile & play nice with others? No, in order for me to get excited, I need to know that Johnny boy’s truly, medically on his last leg (or that the death eaters are planning to declare him medically dead and harvest his organs). If there is a grand plan in place to make Mrs. Palin become President Palin, I’m on board. But as I see it, she’s just a pawn being thrown out by a desperate GOP who may finally be realizing how very disenchanted their former base is with their choice for the Oval office.

I am *finally* home!! What a long week this has been. I am happy to say that my newest son, Logan Kenneth Charles, has been born healthy and absolutely perfect!

I was in labor for nearly 24 hours (inducted Tuesday the 20th at around 9:30 a.m., delivered via c-section Wednesday the 21st at 9:21 a.m.). The labor was going very well, but I stopped progressing at 8 1/2 cm dilated and Logan had two very scary heart decellerations (dangerously low heart rate). After the second time, I had a quick meeting of the minds with the OBs and everyone agreed that a c-section would be the safest bet for Logan's health at that point. I was whisked to the OR theatre and he was born a bit later - at only 8 pounds, 6 ounces. Turns out he was FAR from too big, but he was turned badly - not only was he "sunny side up" (facing up instead of down), he was engaging face first instead of with the back of his head as most babies in this position do - I say he wanted to see what he was getting into :-)

After his birth, I began the long road to recovery and would have been home sooner, but started running fevers at the hospital. I was placed on massive quantities of IV antibiotics and ended up staying until today (following my first 24 hour fever-free period). I apparently lost a great deal of blood in the operation and my blood count levels were less than half of normal. I also had some type of infection most likely related to the surgery. But, five days later and I'm finally home.

Many thanks for the prayers and support, it is appreciated!!!

Oh, and here are some pics of the little guy:

I think this particular article is only sick in terms of the fact that the clinic is fertilizing multiple eggs and then "weeding out" the non-keepers. THAT is sad and sick. However, I don't see anything regarding the practice of filtering only the semen to eliminate the unwanted gender and *then* fertilizing the egg (as we all know, only the semen determines gender and the egg is neutral until fertilized).

As the proud mother of 3 boys with baby boy # 4 due to arrive tomorrow, I would absolutely pay $15-20,000 to "buy" a girl next time around (although, physically, I don't think I can do a next time). The heartache and sadness I felt when finding out my new baby was not a girl was horrible. I will always love & adore all of my sons, but I will forever grieve at the loss of a mother/daughter relationship and all that entails. BUT, if given the choice of "tossing" unwanted boy embryos were the only way to get a girl, forget about it! The boys can be filtered at the sperm stage and that's how it should be done (although I'm sure the level of accuracy isn't quite as great).

This is definitely a case of needing to walk a mile in their shoes to understand completely.

  • U.S. tipping Mexico to Minuteman patrols (telling the Mexican government)

From the article: "Martinez said Mexico's official perception of the civilian groups is that they are vigilantes, a belief the Border Patrol hoped to allay by entering into the cooperative agreement."

And we care about Mexico's "perception" WHY??? As with wiretapping, my opinion is that if you are not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear. If the Mexicans want their "migrants" to be safe, have them apply for green cards and follow the (laughable) legal process.
