Just a smidge shy of being on par in its bias as CJR. I often go to its website http://www.poynter.org/ and read what the media talking heads are saying and thinking.

Once there you must read the Romenesko column http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=45. Read the letters and feedback to Romenesko as well. If you did not think a majority of the media had a leftward tilt, I doubt you would be able to deny it once you have read this section. What they wont say in print is often admitted, nay, proclaimed in these letters and feedbacks.

Its eye opening to say the least.

You would think there would be more of a stink from the main stream media over the AP's obvious bias.

I heard that Party Poker did stop its U.S. Face of its operation but I think its more of a tactic to get some flames going under a few arses.

Some are under the impression that playing online poker is illegal and falls under the 1961 Wire Act. This is not true.

"The Interstate Wire Act of 1961, often called the Federal Wire Act, is a United States federal law prohibiting the operation of certain types of betting businesses in the United States. It begins with the text:

Whoever being engaged in the business of betting or wagering knowingly uses a wire communication facility for the transmission in interstate or foreign commerce of bets or wagers or information assisting in the placing of bets or wagers on any sporting event or contest, or for the transmission of a wire communication which entitles the recipient to receive money or credit as a result of bets or wagers, or for information assisting in the placing of bets or wagers, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.[1] The law has been interpreted by some, including the Department of Justice, to mean that all online gambling is illegal. Yep! And when they sit at a table with me thats exactly what happens.

Many who do not poker or know little about it think it is purely a game of chance. If you were only to be dealt one hand and bet it all on the outcome you would be correct.

But that is not how it works.

As they say, the more I practice the luckier I get.

The more I read about this idiotic bill the less I become worried about it. The goverment cannot refuse to let you deposit money into a forgien account. They at best can tax what you recover back from that account.

Most serious internet gamblers WANT it to be regulated because of the security it would afford. But this simple fact is lost on many a skull of mush.

Add to this that most likely the WTO will get involved and this bill is nothing more then a cheap card trick to amuse the religous right.

Just got off the phone with my state senators in regards to the anti-internet gambling rider that was attached to the port securities act (HR4954). It appears that they are getting far more phone calls with this idiotic feel good sham of legislation then they are about Foley.

The Republican party as we know it now, especially its leadership, is tone deaf, blind, and frankly just not to bright.

I did not vote Republican to have them slip unpopular riders to important legislation in the middle of the night to limit my freedom just to appease a minority of the party. We already have a party who does that.

Now I am having a hard time in seeing the difference.

As a matter of fact thats what I am doing right now lol!

In some states with some banks it is. Here in Maine I have a Bank of America account that will not allow me to transfer funds directly to Poker Stars, Full Tilt, yadda yadda yadda. I have a Netteller account which the government cannot stop me from depositing or withdrawing. The concern is to what length the government may go to pursue an individual to enforce this legislation, if at all.

The way it was done is underhanded. What Frist and the G.O.P. hope to gain from this is lost on me. All it has done is pissed off a big swath of potential voters. Nanny State Republicans on Parade.
