I’ve been listening to his economic speech in Independence, Missouri. He has basically echoed Nancy Pelosi’s line that opposing the bailout is unpatriotic. Here’s what he said: We are square in the greatest financial crisis of our lifetimes. And I am pleased to report that today, I will be returning to the floor of the Senate to vote on a bill that marks a decisive step in the right direction. The original proposal was flawed. I urged additions of taxpayer protections, stronger oversight, limitations on executive compensation and more protections for people’s bank accounts. I am pleased that these are...
  • Where's Biden's money come from to live his life style?

Since Joe Biden has been a US Senator since he was 29 and a local politician before that where the heck does his wealth come from? His dad was a car salesman which while you can do well if your good at it doesn't usually lead to great wealth. Looking at his family compound and the houses on them you have to have a lot of wealth to afford them. His wife is an English professor at Delaware Technical Community College which while it probably pays well isn't like being a partner in a major law firm or anything.

A Microsoft Corp. executive last year said the software company made a mistake by lowering the minimum technical requirements needed to run Windows Vista, a decision he said was made to help Intel Corp. meet its quarterly earnings, according to internal emails disclosed this week. The emails provide a glimpse into how Microsoft executives and hardware partners grappled with technical glitches and other problems as they prepared the long-awaited Windows Vista software for market. The emails were released as part of a federal class-action suit alleging that Microsoft's marketing program for Windows Vista misled consumers. In several of the emails,...
  • Dan Walters: Democrats leveraged budget, too

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Democratic legislators and the media roasted Republican senators for holding up passage of the state budget on issues that had nothing to do with the budget, such as their demands to restrict lawsuits over greenhouse gas emissions. "A whole lot of stuff was brought up at the end that was never brought up before," Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata complained at one point. It's a valid point, even though Republicans countered that they had to use the budget on other issues because the Democrats otherwise ignored them. But Republicans weren't the only ones leveraging the budget...

D.C. Madame to Sell 10,000 Phone Records of High-End Washington Clients Deborah J. Palfrey is unhappy. And, if you know who Deborah J. Palfrey is—and especially if you know her by Jeane—you probably don’t want her unhappy. From 1993 until this past summer, Palfrey ran Pamela Martin and Associates, a “high-end adult fantasy firm which offered legal sexual and erotic services across the spectrum of adult sexual behavior,” according to a statement she put out today hoping to raise funds for her legal defense. The way she plans to raise those funds could reverberate through Washington’s power corridors. She is...

SACRAMENTO--Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger doled out high-paying and prestigious state jobs this year to dozens of outgoing members of his administration, including six-figure salaries for posts he once said were a waste of taxpayer money and should be eliminated. An Associated Press investigation of Schwarzenegger's staffing purge since last year's special election revealed that he has appointed or transferred 40 former staffers elsewhere in state government. At least half of those saw their taxpayer-funded salaries increase after they left Schwarzenegger's office, some by more than $30,000 a year. Schwarzenegger also gave six former staffers jobs with state boards and commissions he...

NEW ORLEANS — By the wee hours of the morning Tuesday, if you looked past the rotting mounds of garbage on the sidewalk and the fact that most of the customers were carrying firearms, the city — right or wrong — looked a bit familiar again. For a while, it was just another night at a Bourbon Street strip joint, a little exhilarating and a little depressing at the same time. Up on stage was Britni Carrubba, who fled Hurricane Katrina with nothing but the clothes on her back. For three weeks she had waded through hell, shuffling from shelter...

Jammu, July 29 (IANS) Unleashing a wave of terror in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, terrorists axed to death a woman and slit the throats of five men after segregating Hindus and Muslims in the village. Both the incidents in separate villages in Rajouri district, about 200 km north of Jammu, took place Thursday night. Though initial reports said the...

Confidential letter reveals Ratzinger ordered bishops to keep allegations secret Pope Benedict XVI faced claims last night he had 'obstructed justice' after it emerged he issued an order ensuring the church's investigations into child sex abuse claims be carried out in secret. The order was made in a confidential letter, obtained by The Observer, which was sent to every Catholic bishop in May 2001. It asserted the church's right to hold its inquiries behind closed doors and keep the evidence confidential for up to 10 years after the victims reached adulthood. The letter was signed by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger,...

With the new year upon us, legislators and the governor are returning to Sacramento to face the nasty business of dealing with the gaping hole in the state budget. Never before has California's economic trouble been as severe. Now is not the time for "business as usual." The budget negotiations prior to the December legislative recess resembled two people dancing to the music playing in their heads. Unfortunately, one hears a tango; the other, a waltz. Both dancers are making all the right moves, but can't understand why their partner keeps stepping on their toes.

RIYADH, 15 July — Fresh talks between the Saudi negotiating team and international oil giants began here yesterday with a view to reaching final agreements on three major gas projects with a combined investment of $25 billion. Sources close to the Saudi team told Arab News that they have begun the talks with top executives of Royal Dutch Shell, which has been selected to lead a consortium to develop the Shaybah field, the largest of the three. "The talks with Shell will continue today. It will be followed by talks with representatives of ExxonMobil tomorrow," the sources said, adding that...
