  • Jeb Bush’s claim that Islamic State ‘didn’t exist when my brother was president’

    Washington Post ^ | May 27, 2015 | By Glenn Kessler
FACT CHECKER: “ISIS didn’t exist when my brother was president. Al Qaeda in Iraq was wiped out when my brother was president.” Bush seems to have fallen prey to Washington conventional wisdom, in which ISIS suddenly emerged into consciousness in the past year or so. That may be fine for armchair analysts or journalists. But that’s little excuse for a presidential candidate, who might have to grapple with this problem if he or she is elected president. With some fine-tuning of his statement, Bush could have made the case that Obama’s decision to withdraw from Iraq, combined with the president’s...

RUSH: The Republican presidential candidates are being hit with, "Well, knowing what you know now, would you go back into Iraq?" And they've mostly accepted the premise that Iraq was a big boondoggle, a huge mistake, Bush lied, we shouldn't have done it, and they're answering on that basis. Well, on Fox News Sunday, which I didn't see, during the group panel discussion, Chris Wallace speaking with Bob Woodward of the Washington Post, Wallace said, "The politics of Iraq have gotten a lot of attention the last couple of weeks with Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, bunch of others, and these...

Humility from a politician is more easy to come by from those on the Right, but you can completely forget about it from anyone who sides with the Left. Am I wrong? Obama, Reid, Pelosi, are they humble? Exactly. The one person who has taken a beating more than any individual on the planet for the past 15 years or so chooses a different path. Even during his time in office, President George W. Bush recognized that he wasn’t the most eloquent speaker who ever resided at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., but the fact remains that the guy is not one...

Jeb Bush stumbled over questions about the Iraq War this week, unnerving some congressional Republicans who wonder if he has what it takes to win the White House. Steadfast allies to the former Florida governor say Bush is just a bit rusty and insist the gaffes won’t be debilitating ahead of his expected campaign for the 2016 GOP nomination. But others on Capitol Hill were scratching their heads as Bush struggled during four consecutive news cycles to articulate his position on the unpopular war that defined the presidency of his older brother, George W. Bush. “[I’m] flabbergasted at the degree...

Former President George W. Bush doesn’t like to complain. How can he when he’s riding through sunny trails alongside some of our nation’s heroes? Number 43 kicked off the 5th annual Warrior 100K in Crawford, Texas, a three-day bike event held to recognize wounded warriors.Fox News’s Dr. Marc Spiegel caught up with the former president before he hit the trails Thursday. • War Veterans: We Miss Dubya

In a new Washington Post-Kaiser Family Foundation poll, the majority of Iraq/Afghanistan war veterans miss President George W. Bush. Sixty-five percent called the 43rd president a good commander in chief, whereas only 42 percent felt the same way about Barack Obama. Even with the Iraq War, half of veterans say it wasn’t worth the fight, but 53 percent still think Bush was a good commander in chief, though when you ask veterans who feel otherwise about the war’s purpose; Bush’s approval hits 80 percent.

The New York Times has been accused of bias by conservative US media after cropping George W Bush and his wife Laura out of its front-page image of the Selma anniversary march. The former Republican president took part in Saturday's march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama to mark 50 years since one of the bloodiest episodes in America's civil rights movement. But the photograph on the front page of Sunday's New York Times, which showed Barack and Michelle Obama leading the anniversary march, appeared to cut the Bushes from the right-hand side of the image.

Yesterday, the media and leftists kept whining about there being zero Republicans at Selma for the anniversary march. As is typical for the media and leftist progressives, there were actually 23 Republicans in attendance yesterday. Even George W. Bush, the devil to the media and the left was at the march, though you wouldn’t know it if you saw today’s New York Times with George Bush and Laura Bush cropped out of their photo.

Earlier this year, Mitt Romney had a Galadriel moment. He appeared to be briefly seized by a vision of himself as an all-powerful, world-striding President Romney, before turning away from temptation and settling for the plain old Mitt Romney he has always been. It was political theater at its most bizarre, a flack-driven frenzy that doubled as a flashback to the self-delusion that blinded the Romney 2012 campaign in its final days. With Romney now out of the way, Jeb Bush has consolidated the support of the GOP's moneyed class with surprising alacrity. As Politico noted last week, the contest...

In recent weeks, I have heard former Associated Press reporter Ron Fournier on Fox News twice asserting, quite offhandedly, that President George W. Bush “lied us into war in Iraq.” I found this shocking. I took a leave of absence from the bench in 2004-05 to serve as co-chairman of the Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction—a bipartisan body, sometimes referred to as the Robb-Silberman Commission. It was directed in 2004 to evaluate the intelligence community’s determination that Saddam Hussein possessed WMD—I am, therefore, keenly aware of both the intelligence provided to...

Whether you agree with his politics or not, and despite being vilified by the left for the better part of eight years, there’s no doubting that George W. Bush is a class act. The former president, dressed as Santa, visited the Dallas’ Children’s Medical Center recently to spread a little Christmas cheer with the young patients. And just as he does in his many activities with wounded veterans, Bush did so sans media.

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee released new information on Thursday that he claims is evidence that the Bush administration misled the nation in the run-up to the war in Iraq. In a speech on the Senate floor, retiring Sen. Carl Levin, a Democrat, outlined a 2003 CIA cable that warns George W. Bush administration officials against making references to claims that Mohammad Atta — the man who led the Sept. 11 hijackers — met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in the Czech Republic before the Sept. 11, 2011, attacks. Levin claims Bush officials used the unconfirmed meeting...

We have now had 13 years without another terrorist attack on United States soil. Do you think the end justified the means? Can anyone NOT remember where they were or what they were doing on September 11, 2001, the day the two planes hit the twin towers in New York? Will we ever be able to forget the images of innocent civilians jumping hundreds of floors to their death to avoid being consumed by flames? Who could imagine that when 125 people left their homes for work at the Pentagon that they would never return home to their families? What...

After U.S. Central Command called on us to help transport from Iraq enough yellowcake uranium to make several atomic bombs stored at Saddam’s nuclear weapons complex, I realized why neither the Pentagon nor the White House advertised the presence of this WMD precursor: safety and security. Before the U.S. military moved in to secure the facility after the 2003 invasion, looters had been there first. Even though the universally recognized yellow-and-black radioactivity warnings were posted on the bunkers, locals had ripped open the storage areas and stolen casks of yellowcake with many sickened as a result. More importantly, we did...

In an extremely large contrast to how George W. Bush has been treated as a former president, he refused to criticizes Barack Obama while he currently sits in office. The brilliant part of it all is how much Obama took jabs at our former president while Bush was leading our nation. "W” Explained that he was growing tired of the limelight and didn’t feel the need to make headlines by speaking out. Bush went on to stay that despite the unpopularity in Texas, whenever Obama comes to Texas, Obama is greeted by none other than George W. Bush himself!

The birthplace of the Islamic State (ISIS) has been traced to Camp Bucca, a detention center that was operated by the United States military during the Iraq war. According to The Washington Post, many ISIS leaders, including Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, “were incarcerated and probably met” at Camp Bucca, “which had detained some of the war’s most radical extremists along the Kuwait border.” “According to former prison commanders, analysts and soldiers, Camp Bucca provided a unique setting for both prisoner radicalization and inmate collaboration — and was formative in the development of today’s most potent jihadist force,” reports the Post.

President George H.W. Bush is displeased that Georgia Democrat Michelle Nunn is using his picture in ads for her Senate campaign. Nunn, who led Bush’s Points of Light Foundation until 2013, is touting her past Bush ties to counter claims by her Republican opponent, David Perdue, that Nunn is an Obama follower. In a new campaign ad, “Familiar,” Nunn highlights her former relationship with Bush, showing off a 2009 picture with the former President, as proof that she is able to work with Republicans and Democrats. But George H.W. Bush officially endorsed Perdue in September and is upset that Nunn...

His paintings made news worldwide, but it turns out that former President George W. Bush has been working on another, highly personal project since leaving the White House: He has quietly completed a biography of his father, former President George H.W. Bush. Crown Publishers told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the book, currently untitled, will be released November 11. In 2010, Crown published the younger Bush’s million-selling memoir, “Decision Points.” […] According to Crown, the book will cover the elder Bush’s whole life and his influence on his son, from George W.’s “childhood in West Texas to his early...
