Jeb Bush’s claim that Islamic State ‘didn’t exist when my brother was president’
Washington Post ^ | May 27, 2015 | By Glenn Kessler

FACT CHECKER: “ISIS didn’t exist when my brother was president. Al Qaeda in Iraq was wiped out when my brother was president.”

Bush seems to have fallen prey to Washington conventional wisdom, in which ISIS suddenly emerged into consciousness in the past year or so. That may be fine for armchair analysts or journalists. But that’s little excuse for a presidential candidate, who might have to grapple with this problem if he or she is elected president.

With some fine-tuning of his statement, Bush could have made the case that Obama’s decision to withdraw from Iraq, combined with the president’s reluctance to intervene in Syria, fostered the conditions that allowed Islamic State to expand territory under its control. That’s certainly an opinion that could be expressed.

Instead, Bush flatly stated as fact that ISIS did not exist when his brother was president — and that al-Qaeda in Iraq was wiped out when Obama took office. Both statements are false and worthy of Four Pinocchios.

Has anyone else noticed when ISIS invaded Iraq ISIS suddenly became experts on using American social media to get their message out?

How did ISIS suddenly become experts on using American social media to get their message out?

The Dauphin’s mistake is in believing the importance of what the current administration says, believes or does actually matters in the scheme of things in a sane world.

He’s a pandering idiot fool-tool of the left.

Christianity in Iraq was shattered as a result of the Bush war. Isis is destroying the remnants. So, yes, Bush does share some of the blame.

Perhaps ISIS did not exist as a separate entity when Dubya was President, but the Muslim Brotherhood and the Wahhabi mission did. As al-Qaeda was taking a beating in the public marketplace of the world, an alternate was being quietly funded and trained up, using the lessons learned, and the technical savvy gained was employed to create the new franchise, known variously as Islamic State, ISIS, ISIL or by the transliterated Arabic acronym DAESH.

There are those who would argue that this entity is not “Islamic”, but to the contrary, it is the very PUREST form of Islam, back to the very fundamentals as practiced by Mohammed Ali himself.

Both Wahhabism and the Muslim Brotherhood are traced back to the rise of the vast wealth of the Saudi kingdom and a desire to “restore” the One True Path (and kick the butts of the Shi’a thoroughly and for all time).

Poor Jeb falls into the trap. It doesn’t matter when ISIS or its ancestors were created. All he had to say was that ISIS was not controlling huge swaths of Iraq when dubya was prez. He is one stupid RINO.

It’s too bad the citizens of Ramadi, Mosul, etc., etc. didn’t have a 2nd amendment to protect themselves and their family members…along with a militia, police, veterans of previous wars, state troopers, county sheriffs, national guard, cia, fbi, nsa, atf, army, navy, air force, special forces, etc., etc., etc. to back them up along with a rule of law built around the protection of individual life, liberty.

Uh….what was our mission? What is our mission going forward?

Did they ever fact-check Obama in 2011 when he said, “We are leaving behind a secure and stable Iraq”? Hell, no.

I seem to recall that during the war the media told us incessantly that there was no Al Qaeda in Iraq but now that we have ISIS the only way to blame Bush is claim they were there after all and he failed to get them? Okay, sure, whatever.

The ISIS sentiment has been in the entire region for over 1,000 years. The Sunni-Shia rift has been around for over 1,000 years.

The impetus toward a pan-Islamic state has been around for centuries.

Maybe Jeb and his brother should pick up a few history books.

Kinda like blaming ALL OF MANKIND for Christ’s crucifixion; I like a more direct nexus before I assign blame.

ISIS was recognized maybe by 2004-5-6, but it was not a major force and by 2008 it was not a force at all, its members having been decimated in the surge and improved Iraqi security.

Then came Obama and his exit and with him Maliki and how he poisoned sectarian divisions and left many Sunnis feeling like the Iraqi government was not their government just a government by and for Shia.

Into Obama and Maliki’s failure to sustain all the gains up to 2009 stepped ISIS and others.

No Jeb, while GWB was in office ISIS did exist, but yes Jeb it was not the threat it is today.

No, it's more like blaming Bush for what Bush did wrong.
