Former national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence, Olivia Troye, revealed that her biggest fear linked to another Trump administration is who he'll appoint to his cabinet. She worries about people like one-time White House strategist Steve Bannon and short-time Trump National Security Adviser Mike Flynn — both charged with crimes then pardoned by Trump — and Kash Patel, who has written a children's book about "King Trump." Trump learned from his first term that he can place people in "acting" positions without Senate confirmation, Troye warned in an MSNBC interview Saturday. Who knows what you will get...

On Monday, the Supreme Court heard challenges to the draconian Texas anti-choice law, a proceeding that might well be the first tolling of the death knell for the reproductive freedom that ensued after the Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade. This is undoubtedly a momentous bit of business, especially in the context of how we came to this 6-3 conservative majority on the high bench. However, on Friday, when very few people were watching, the Court took another action that is equally terrifying. Remember when Steve Bannon was yammering about destroying “the administrative state”? Members of the Supreme Court do.

Earlier today it was widely reported that North Carolina Senator Richard Burr was not happy with Ted Cruz. That doesn't make him a special snowflake. Most of the practitioners of crony capitalism and Failure Theater in the Senate are not happy with Ted Cruz. But Burr was not content to merely take a number and get in line. Burr had to make a point of how pissed he was at the idea of Ted Cruz winning the nomination. (Burr's Heritage Action score is 45%, which is the same as arch-conservatives John Cornyn and Mitch McConnell.) Cruz has become such a...

Raleigh, N.C. — Rep. Renee Ellmers is poised to become the first Republican in Congress to lose their seat in a primary this year. As the polls closed across North Carolina at the end of an unusual June primary, Ellmers, the nominal incumbent in the 2d Congressional District, trailed both her challengers. Early returns strongly suggest U.S. Rep. George Holding is poised to win the seat. [snip] With 62 of the district's 158 precincts reporting, Holding held 55 percent of the vote, easily outpacing his competitors with the support of Wake County. If the trend in early returns hold, Ellmers...

Jenny Beth Martin of Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund just emailed out defeat (“Tough Night”) in the North Carolina Republican Primary for U.S. Senate. But a strange situation is developing: Only 14.37% of ballots have been counted, even though 90.53% of precincts reporting. http://enr.ncsbe.gov/ElectionResults/?election_dt=05/06/2014 Those who are not looking at the official results from the State of North Carolina, may misunderstand. Anyone seeing that 90.53% of precincts have reported will assume that the results are reasonably final. But in fact, only 936,123 out of 6,516,126 ballots have been counted. That means the biggest precincts have not reported. It appears likely...

RALEIGH, NC (WECT) – Greg Brannon and Mark Harris showed improved numbers while Thom Tillis saw his support slip in the final Public Policy Polling survey of the North Carolina Republican Senate primary campaigns. In a PPP poll done April 26-28, Tillis had support from 46 percent of the responders, with Brannon at 20 percent and Harris at 11 percent. In the final poll done over the May 3-4 weekend, Tillis had the support of 40 percent, with Brannon up to 28 percent and Harris at 15 percent. The 40 percent mark would keep Tillis at the level he needs...

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is making an 11th hour plunge into the North Carolina Senate race, aiming to boost his preferred candidate and block the GOP establishment’s favorite, state House Speaker Thom Tillis, from scoring a clean win in Tuesday’s primary. The Kentucky Republican and potential presidential candidate said in an interview that he will stump on Monday for Republican Greg Brannon, a libertarian-minded candidate who is trying to ride a tea party wave into a runoff against Tillis, who is backed by the party establishment and is reportedly expected to receive the endorsement of Jeb Bush. Tillis is looking...

Political action committees representing U.S. Sen. John McCain and the Koch Brothers helped Republican Thom Tillis to a 3-1 fundraising edge over his GOP rivals heading into the final month of their U.S. Senate campaign. Donations from McCain’s “Country First” PAC and the Koch Industries PAC contributed to Tillis’ total fundraising of $3.1 million, according to a report posted Thursday by the Federal Election Commission.

As those of you who follow my hate mail know, I am opposed to running untested candidates against perfectly good incumbent Republican senators this election cycle. It will be a long time before Republicans have as good a year as this to win a Senate majority. Unfortunately, we have idiots doing the idiot thing, pretending to be “tea partiers,” while challenging sitting Republican senators over fairly minor ideological differences.

North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R) leads a crowded Republican field for the right to face Sen. Kay Hagan (D) in November, according to a new survey conducted for a super PAC backing his campaign. Tillis scored 27 percent of the vote, compared with 16 percent for physician Greg Brannon and 10 percent for state Baptist Convention President Mark Harris. A handful of other candidates received only single-digit support.

SharpRightTurn, Public Policy Polling (PPP) just released their latest poll for North Carolina. And the results are phenomenal: Tillis 18% Brannon 15% Harris 11% Grant 7% Alexander 6% Bradshaw 5% Snyder 2% As you can see, the race is now a statistical dead heat -- and I'm within the margin of error of my establishment-backed opponent. SharpRightTurn, thanks to your generous support, our voter outreach program is working, and the momentum is clearly on our side. With less than 30 days until the May 6 Republican Primary, victory is within our reach. But time is running out for you and...

Dr. Greg Brannon, a Cary Republican who intends to run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Kay Hagan, will visit Winston-Salem tonight to open his campaign office in the city. **SNIP** Brannon, an obstetrician, is among six Republicans who intend to run for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in the May primary.

The messy rollout of Obamacare is hurting some of its strongest supporters including Sen. Kay Hagan. Her poll numbers are dipping to new lows and her GOP challengers are gaining ground, especially one unlikely Tea Party candidate. Of all the GOP candidates challenging Kay Hagan for a U.S. Senate seat, Greg Brannon, an OBGYN from Cary, was the least known until now. "I've been so honored to have the opportunity to live in this great Country and this great State. It's my time to give back," said Brannon. Brannon was recently endorsed by Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and conservative pundit...

RedState Readers, there was a time when we could ask you to open your wallets for solid candidates and within hours goals would be met. We did that recently with Ken Cuccinelli in Virginia and you showed just how quickly you could raise money. But people still think you guys are not as engaged as you once were. So I have a challenge for you this morning — show the world conservatives are not disengaged. But more importantly, show the world you’ll do what it takes to fund reinforcements for Ted Cruz in the United States Senate. There are two...
