A gunman wearing body armor targeted two California police officers who were taking a break at a coffee shop in an ambush that failed when his gun malfunctioned, authorities said Monday. Adam Powell, 41, appeared in the doorway of a Starbucks and 'attempted to assassinate' the two officers on Sunday, Vallejo Police Chief Andrew Bidou said. The officers were not injured because the battered weapon, its butt covered with duct tape or foil, appeared to jam. Powell of Suisun City was in critical condition after being shot by the officers during a foot chase.

Adam Winkler is a law professor at UCLA.  He has been reliably for imposing additional gun control laws, but is more "moderate" than many academics on the left.  He has more intellectual honesty than most, and has fairly described the racist roots of gun control in the United States. A survey done at Yale, based on doctors political party registration, found that there was a significant difference in how Republican and Democrat doctors treated patients who owned guns. A 22-year-old man could spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair after he was shot in a Coney Island apartment building following a fight against another man, officials and heartbroken family members said. Aliahsheen Robinson was shot on the 21st floor of the Sea Park building on W. 28th St. at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday. An armed man picked the wrong store clerk to rob when he entered a Texas smoke shop last month. In surveillance footage taken of the incident, a man enters Austin, Texas, store and immediately draws a gun. Without missing a beat, the store clerk, who is smoking a cigarette, draws his own gun - a CZ-75 SP-01 9mm pistol - and begins firing at the robber.
