While Democrats, Gabby Giffords, and groups like Moms Demand Action claim that expanding background checks would end mass shootings, The Washington Post looks across the pond and demonstrates that Europe’s expanded background checks prove useless in the face of a booming black market for guns and radicalized Muslims looking to commit terrorist acts.

WALLACE, Idaho — A fugitive’s escape from the Shoshone County Jail ended when he entered the property of a Marine and former law enforcement officer. KXLY-TV in Spokane reports that Roy Bieluch broke out of the jail on Tuesday night after crawling through the ceiling of a storage closet. He bolted past a cleaning woman when she opened the door.

Let’s say you want to stop someone from shooting you. You could A) lobby for more gun control, B) report the potential killer to the police, or C) arm yourself. Choose any two. Common sense suggests that B and C are the correct answer. A woman became locked in a gun safe at Tractor Supply Co. in Somerset County Saturday. Somerset Fire Chief Stephen Miller said the woman and her children were playing a game, which led to the woman getting stuck inside. "Her and her kids were playing a game, and they pushed her in and locked the door. And that's how she became locked in there," Miller said.

Somali Terrorist Group Targets Western Shopping Malls In Call For Lone Wolf Attacks By Angelo Young The al Qaeda branch in Somalia released a video Saturday celebrating the September 2013 attack on the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya, that killed 60 people in a four-day siege. In what is probably a statistical quirk, five of eleven homicides in 2015 have been self defense shootings.  Calling them 'victims' seems a little odd when the people shot were the aggressors.  From tulsaworld.com: Of the 11 homicide victims so far this year, five have been killed by civilians or security guards in shootings Tulsa police have deemed self-defense.      In St. Louis, Missouri, before Ferguson, the police arrested an 18-year-old on gun and drug charges.   An officer turned off the dashcam video of the event, and because of that, the prosecutor dropped all charges. On February 18, an armed pharmacist shot and killed an armed suspect who was allegedly attempting to rob Good Family Pharmacy in Pinch, West Virginia. The suspect, 25-year-old Terry Gillenwater, allegedly walked into the pharmacy “about 9:45 a.m. with a mask on his face.” According to WSAZ, he then allegedly “pulled out a gun and pointed it at the pharmacy staff,” and the pharmacist answered him by pulling his own gun and shooting Gillenwater in the chest. OTAY MESA — An FBI agent's handgun discharged into his leg Thursday morning during training at a firearms training center in Otay Mesa, a federal official said. The shooting happened at the San Diego Regional Firearms Training Center on Alta Road about 10 a.m., FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth said. Investigators are trying to determine if the agent accidentally shot himself or if the gun malfunctioned.

Wisconsin was the next to the last state to enact a concealed carry law.   It passed in 2011.  The law had been thwarted for years by the actions of former Democrat Governor Jim Doyle.  Lawmakers in Wisconsin learned many lessons from the efforts of previous states, and it showed.  Over 59,000 Wisconsin residents had applied by December 30, 2011, and 100,000 permits were issued half way through April of 2012. 144,000 had been issued by the end of the year. On February 19, a widow in Columbus, Ohio, shot and killed an alleged burglar one week after her son gave her a gun “to keep her safe.” According to 10TV, the woman heard someone breaking in around 5 am, grabbed her gun, and “fired multiple shots at [the suspect].” He was rushed to a hospital but pronounced dead two hours later. Police identified the suspect as “28-year-old Christopher Lee Willis.” They suspect that Willis “also broke into neighboring homes.” Residents near the widow’s home heard her fire the gun. Dale Long died in the same red car he used to run into an apartment security guard on a cold night in early January. Long, who had been arrested in Tulsa nearly a dozen times since the early 1990s, was spotted by security officers who recognized him not only as the source of the disturbance to which they were responding but also as someone who had been banned from the property.
