Blizzards and AK's go together like baseball and hotdogs. Since we're in the middle of another snow storm and given the recent passing of Kalashnikov, I decided to talk about a few of the things that make AK's so unique. The AK featured in this video is a Polytech Legend in 7.62x39 which I bought back in the late 1980's. The bull-pup I affectionately call the "Hebrew Hammer" is a IWI Tavor with a Mepro MOR red-dot sight.

Yes, we must ban those “AR15 shotguns.” I heard about this from a few folks on Twitter tonight. h/t Sharky *Edited to add: We all know that the same network forgot Ft. Hood, whose contributor Charles Blow once used “assault handgun” in a debate with yours truly on 2A, and whose 9 pm eastern host thinks AR stands for “assault rifle” wasn’t talking about the MKA 1919. Just because the sheer style is similar, the platform is not. **I’m told by a handful of folks that there exists audio of this being said. ***Twitter reminds me how their 9pm...
  • California Representative Henry Waxman Introduces Bill to Ban "Assault Weapons" Parts Kits

As California Congressman Henry Waxman promised, he has introduced a Bill to ban the sale of “Parts kits” for “Assault Rifles, Assault Shotguns, and Assault Pistols." This also includes a ban on Receiver blanks. The Bill defines an “assault weapons parts kit as: “ any part or combination of parts not designed and intended for repair or replacement but designed and intended to enable a consumer who possesses all such necessary parts to assemble a semiautomatic assault weapon…” Which raised the question of vagueness in the law as to which components of an “Assault Weapons Parts Kits” could be sold...

The Military-Style Rifle 'Bubble' May Have Burst Rob Wile June 23, 2013, 6:53 PMDemand for military-style rifles like the AR-15 have peaked, according to one account (as Tweeted by NYCAviation's Phil Derner Jr.). Nick Leghorn, the testing and reviews editor for TheTruthAboutGuns.com, says he recently attempted to sell another assault rifle, a 16" modified 300 Blackout rifle online. But he found the market wanting, and ended up settling for an offer $700 below the list price. He continues: When I walked into the local Cabela’s and saw racks upon racks of AR-15 rifles (pictured above)(Can't post the Getty image) for...

A Glennville man was cited for disorderly conduct June 11 after allegedly brandishing an AK-47 assault rifle at a Hinesville basketball court during a dispute over a foul call. Hinesville police were dispatched to the Liberty County Recreation Department basketball courts after receiving a report that a man had pulled an AK-47 out of the trunk of his car and threatened another man with it. When police arrived, they found the area “very crowded,” according to the report. They were told that the man who had produced the gun was sitting on the bleachers. Police made contact with the man,...
  • SWAT-clad man uses assault rifle in chaotic Santa Monica shooting spree

A semi-automatic assault rifle is again being tied to a US mass shooting, this one a chaotic series of events led by a body-armor-clad man who killed four and wounded five people before being shot and killed by police in a college library in the iconic beachside city of Santa Monica, Calif. The attack marked the first major mass shooting since a bipartisan gun control bill failed in the US Senate in April. The shooting may help efforts to revive the debate about gun control, as well as put focus on ongoing legislative action in some states around allowing students...

We are all susceptible to the occasional knee-jerk reaction. We hear something and immediately jump to a position of opposition or support with little or no evidence to support the position. Sometimes such gut responses are correct and are subsequently validated by additional information, but often they are completely off base. As a Second Amendment advocate I run into a lot of jerking knees and gut feelings that can be very difficult to overcome. They usually hit me as questions – like “why should anyone be allowed to have a gun like that,” or “why should anyone be allowed to...

Dad says Facebook photo of son with gun brought cops to house A New Jersey man says that, on the basis of mere hearsay about a Facebook photo of his 11-year-old son with a .22 rifle, police and child protection arrive at his door and demand entry. I am sure there are several 11-year-old boys who are terribly proficient at handling a gun. But, given that I wouldn't trust an 11-year-old boy with a popsicle, I would just as well not be anywhere near them. This, however, doesn't appear to have been the policy of the authorities in New Jersey....

EDITORIAL: ‘Assault weapons’ are popular with the young. Are gamers key? In a recent Reason-Rupe poll a slim majority of American supported the private ownership of “assault weapons” (51 percent in favor, 44 opposed) and a slightly larger majority of Americans believe that the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School is being exploited for political means (52 percent see it as politicking, 41 as responsible governing). But there were some other findings that are sure to surprise many people, especially politicians. Specifically that age, not politics, has a greater bearing on whether or not a person has the right to...
  • Why Young Women Want AR-15s

    National Review Online ^ | January 23, 2013 | Celia Bigelow & Aubrey Blankenship
Why Young Women Want AR-15s Americans have the right to an efficient weapon for home defense. Sorry, President Obama. As young women, we prefer an AR-15 “assault” rifle with a 30-round magazine for self-defense. In fact, we wouldn’t want to be stuck at home without one. In the wake of mass murders like Sandy Hook and the horrific rapes and murders of thousands of women each year, pepper spray, mace, or five-round handheld pistols aren’t going to cut it. So what’s a girl to do? When choosing our tool for home defense, we want the best — in accuracy, handling,...

Gun shop owner to auction off Bushmaster rifle for charity A local gun shop owner is auctioning off one of his guns to help out one of his employees in need. "Buy a gun, annoy a liberal." That's a T-shirt you can buy at Central Texas Gun Works in Austin. The owner, Michael Cargill is pro-gun but what he is not...is a conservative. "Hey, I'm a Democrat and I support the second amendment. If someone wants to come in here and buy a gun, annoy a liberal, that's fine. They can do that!" Cargill said. That's what makes the following...

NBC News Special Report is now reporting that NO assault rifle was used in the Newtown school shooting. The AR15 rifle WAS left in the car and not used. For weeks now, who knew this and when? What then is the agenda for the attack on "assault rifle" or AR15 that was not used. Why the extreme effort to get effective defensive weapons out of the hands of citizens using whatever lies necessary? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8004316/ns/video/#VpFlash

A 15-year old boy used his father’s AR-15 to defend himself and his 12-year old sister against two burglars at their home just north of Houston, Texas. Their father is a Harris County Precinct 1 deputy constable, and the boy knew what he had to do to keep himself and his sister alive. Around 2:30 PM, two men tried to break in, with one going through the front door and the other in the back. The boy grabbed the AR-15 and shot at them. The two later showed up at a Tomball hospital. The adult was hit three times and...
  • Volunteer Firefighter to NY Gov. Cuomo: Why I Own an “Assault Rifle”

I am a 19-year-old volunteer firefighter living in New York. I also own an AR-15 rifle that is ban compliant. This means that I have spent well over a thousand dollars buying and modifying the rifle to make it legal in NY State, something that people in other states with less violent crime do not need to do. My AR-15 is the best home defense weapon possible for me to own in NY. As I am not yet 21, I cannot apply for a permit to purchase a pistol. Even so, I believe that my rifle is perfect for me....

“Assault rifle” saves teenagers from home invasion burglars No sooner do I finish explaining to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo why people might need 10 bullets for something other than blowing away deer, than the headlines burst with an example, courtesy of The Right Scoop and Poor Richard’s News. Not only was a “high capacity magazine” involved, but the story involves a teenage boy in Texas defending his even younger sister from a couple of thugs with one of those dreaded AR-15 “assault rifles”: • The teenage son of a Harris County Precinct 1 deputy shot a home intruder Tuesday...

In the media and Administration’s push to use the recent school shooting to advance their political agenda, they are careful to couch their words in vague emotionalism and obscure terms that avoid any facts or rational discussion. The rifles that they are most keen on banning are exactly those firearms that are least used in murders, but the most protected by the Constitution. Modern sport utility rifles, which are included in the vague term “assault weapons", are used so seldom for murder that many states do not see a single case in a year. In 2010, there were 12,996 murders....

Nearly two decades before the Aurora Colorado massacre, an assault weapon-toting madman’s massacre of eight people inside the 101 California highrise in San Francisco sent shock waves around the nation. In the aftermath of that bloody day in 1993, California U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein became a leader in calling for an assault weapons ban. This week, 19 years to the month later, Feinstein is speaking out on assault weapons, calling for a national “conversation” about their dangers — though she admits that politically, any reforms are unlikely to happen. “Weapons of war don’t belong on the streets,” she said Sunday....
