The Asbury Park City Council voted Wednesday evening to allow indoor dining beginning on June 15, a move in direct violation of New Jersey executive orders related to COVID-19. On June 3, Gov. Phil Murphy signed Executive Order 150, which allows outdoor dining on June 15, subject to health and safety protocols. But Asbury Park went a major step forward by allowing diners to eat inside. Reached on Twitter, Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn confirmed a report by The Coaster breaking the city’s decision. Such a good question, Madeline! What does Asbury Park Public Schools do with all that money, even as enrollment declines? With schools all over the state cutting costs, why is this happening? I mean, $42K a kid? Those students must be academic superstars! After all, that’s the basis for New Jersey’s Abbott decisions: As Education Law Center explains, ELC’s legal and policy advocacy, which includes such landmark rulings as Abbott v. Burke, has significantly advanced the provision of fair school funding, high quality early education, safe and adequate school facilities, and school reform, especially to schools serving high concentrations of...

Asbury Park's waterfront development boom and the revitalization of its downtown retail and restaurant district has drawn investors, shoppers and diners with cash to spare. But, city officials and community leaders agree, those folks have attracted less prosperous people who are sometimes desperate for cash and not always bashful about asking for it. So last month, the City Council adopted a ban on what it officially labeled "aggressive panhandling." The new law, which went into effect last week, was criticized by advocates for the poor and is being monitored by civil libertarians. Violators of the begging ban are subject to...

Does Islamic company selling 'Sharia~compliant mortgages' control Asbury Park NJ boardwalk? With ISIS committing acts of terror on 4 continents, and President Obama importing refugees from their home territory, now is a bad time to offer interest-free Sharia Law mortgages in America, but that’s exactly what one company is doing. The beach town of Asbury Park, New Jersey has undergone a slow-grinding redevelopment for the better part of 30 years. Bereft of money in 2007, the city sold millions of dollars worth of storied boardwalk buildings including Convention Hall to a private company -- Madison Marquette. Madison Marquette also owns...

I was in the office till about 9 last night, listening carefully to what some ordinary people were saying. As I was driving near to home, I was still looking closely at how people people behave in certain situations and listening carefully to what they say. So I just wanted to relate a little of what I saw and heard of the national discussion about race, as it took place among the those that are our future. I went down Springwood Ave. in Asbury Park, which up until the 1960's had jazz clubs, grocery stores, restaurants and parades. The...

ASBURY PARK — The owner of the Stone Pony, who once said waterfront developers would get control of it only “over my dead body,” has agreed to sell to them, putting the famed shore nightclub’s future in jeopardy — again. Under the sale agreement, Asbury Partners could demolish the building, build a new club elsewhere in the city and call it the Stone Pony, while Santana would be allowed to use the name to...
