GREER, S.C. — A 51-year-old middle school teacher has resigned after being accused of inappropriately touching a student, according to a release from Greer police. Police arrested Edwin Thomas, of Greenville, on Friday on a charge of third-degree assault and battery. A police incident report said a Greer Middle School student reported that during the week prior to spring break, Thomas cornered her in a classroom and told her what a great student she was. Other students told Thomas that the girl “needed a hug,” the report says.

RANKIN (KDKA) — A Woodland Hills School District employee is headed to trial on charges he allegedly physically assaulted a student. After his preliminary hearing on Wednesday, 50-year-old Joseph Golden III, of Verona, shielded his face from TV cameras when he came out of the courtroom Thursday. He’s been ordered to stand trial on charges of simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Golden was a faculty member at the Woodland Hills Promise Alternative School in Rankin. ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. - Two middle school teachers are out of their jobs after giving an award to an eighth-grade student. A student at Memorial Middle School in Conyers, who has ADHD, was given the "Most Likely to Not Pay Attention" award at a school assembly this week.
