A 51-year-old middle school teacher has resigned after being accused of inappropriately touching a student, according to a release from Greer police.
Police arrested Edwin Thomas, of Greenville, on Friday on a charge of third-degree assault and battery.
A police incident report said a Greer Middle School student reported that during the week prior to spring break, Thomas cornered her in a classroom and told her what a great student she was. Other students told Thomas that the girl “needed a hug,” the report says.

Perhaps us old-timers are naive when we describe “the good old days” and have no memories of this type of sexual/predatory abuse.
It may be time to administer psychiatric tests and background checks before teachers and child group leaders (scouts, sports, priests) get access to our precious children.
And no adult in these positions of ‘trust’ should be alone with minors.
Parents are so trusting and the predators know it.

I would NEVER teach in a high school. Teenage girls are jail bait and many of them know it. My local HS was raided a year ago for a prostitution ring set up and operated by teenage girls in the school.

You know what the problem is? The schools are in such back shape they hire anyone they can get. No one wants to do this job. This man would make more money working as a garbage collector in NY than teaching school.

Some girls are like that but don’t mean every girl is. She did say “no” after all. She was like me and thought this dude was old and creepy and I’m 5 years younger than him.

I followed the Elizabeth Thomas case from the very start and read everything. This is how it began, with the teaching pulling crap like this in the classroom. It ended with police finding her eating wildflowers while some dolt raped her hourly in a California compound.
This is the truth not only have terrible teachers but now immoral ones as well.

Yes, I believe there was NO WAY this could have ended with him backing off.
What he did by chasing her and hugging her was NUTS and shows he can’t control his urges for her.
What is terrifying is that I can’t imagine he will do time for it or be monitored long term.
Do they monitor 3rd degree sex offenders?
