  • Happy 377th Birthday, Army National Guard

    Heritage ^ | December 13, 2013 | Clark Irvine
Created by the members of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1636 to defend the earliest American community, the Army National Guard celebrates its 377th birthday today. Originally a militia group made up of all able-bodied colonists over the age of 16, the National Guard in its current form wasn’t created until 1916. Its citizen-soldier members have fought and died in every major American conflict since 1637. National Guard units have been essential to the war effort for the past 12 years in both Iraq and Afghanistan, while also answering the call to duty in local and state communities across the...

Prayers RequestedFrom kacres as received from the step-daughter of ThreePuttinDude..."In late September/early October, he was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer. As of yesterday, my Mom was told that his liver is failing, and they can't seem to get his electrolytes corrected (potassium too high, ammonia level is too high, calcium is too high, and sodium is too low), which could be what is causing his awful confusion. There is talk about bringing hospice in, but the oncologist is hoping to start him on radiation therapy, since it seemed the chemo drug may have caused too many side effects."  ...

For Immediate Release Contact: tomhoefling@gmail.com December 2, 2013 Tom Hoefling of Lohrville today announced his intention to enter the 2014 Republican primary race against incumbent Governor Terry Branstad. Hoefling, the long-time conservative activist and organizer, enters the campaign as an anti-establishment outsider, having spent the last six years outside the GOP as a registered independent, and as the founder and chairman of the national America’s Party. On the campaign’s newly-renovated website (tomhoefling.com), he says: “The Branstad era in Iowa is coming to an end soon. There is little doubt about that. The only real question is where we will choose...

Our family is very proud and excited about our son's early decision acceptance to Hillsdale College to attend in the fall of next year. He's also earned a nice academic merit scholarship that we desperately need. We'll figure out how to pay for the rest of it. Couldn't be prouder or more hopeful about his future.

    Convention of States ^ | November 19th 2013 | Anne Reiner
The Convention of States email account has been flooded with inquiries about our projected timeline: “How many states have applied?” “When will the convention happen?” “We need this now!” We love these questions, but we’d like our volunteers to understand something first: this is not a get-rich-quick scheme. The Convention of States Project is following a carefully planned process, and each step must be given an appropriate amount of attention. The state legislatures have to be in session, our applications needs to be sponsored, and we need volunteer leadership in every key state. This doesn’t mean we’ll sit around spinning...

    NBC 4 - New York ^ | November 12, 2013 | staff
A slain Staten Island soldier was honored at the Polish consulate in Manhattan Tuesday for his heroic actions during an insurgent attack in Afghanistan in August. Staff Sgt. Michael Ollis, 24, was killed on Forward Operating Base Ghazni in eastern Afghanistan on Aug. 28. When a car bomb exploded near the base and insurgents began attacking, Ollis first accounted for his men and then ran towards the site of the blast and sound of gunfire, according to Polish military officials. During the fighting, Ollis stepped between a Polish officer, Lt. Karol Cierpica, and a suicide bomb-laden insurgent, protecting the officer...

    Convention of States ^ | November 13th, 2013 | COS Project Team
This is not a partisan issue. Washington, D.C., will never voluntarily relinquish meaningful power—no matter who is elected. The only rational conclusion is this: unless some political force outside of Washington, D.C., intervenes, the federal government will continue to bankrupt this nation, embezzle the legitimate authority of the states, and destroy the liberty of the people. Rather than securing the blessings of liberty for future generations, Washington, D.C., is on a path that will enslave our children and grandchildren to the debts of the past. We believe our strategy gives us an almost-certain chance of success. Two goals separate our...

INDIANAPOLIS - The leader of the Indiana Senate has invited lawmakers from every state to join him Dec. 7 at Mount Vernon, George Washington's Virginia home, to discuss the state-led process for crafting amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Senate President David Long, R-Fort Wayne, asks in a letter written to fellow legislative leaders that each state send a bipartisan group of three delegates to the "Mount Vernon Assembly." He said the meeting will lay the groundwork for a Convention of the States that would, when established by Congress, propose amendments to change various provisions of the Constitution. In early September, the Convention of States Project began searching the country for citizens who recognized the brokenness of D.C. and were ready to be a part of the solution. Since the release of its Volunteer Leadership Application, the Grassroots Team has reviewed hundreds of names. Each application highlights a common desire to serve the nation and defend its freedoms for future generations. We are excited to announce that twenty-six states now have active leadership in place. One recently-appointed leader explained, “I don’t want to take the chance of sitting aside thinking that perhaps someone else will jump in and...

SCF Senate Update Fellow Conservatives: U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), the Republican Leader, has a liberal record and he refuses to fight for our principles. Mitch McConnell has cut deals with the Democrats to increase the debt limit, raise taxes, and fund...
