The third-ranking House Republican, Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), said he backs granting legal status, but not a new pathway to citizenship, to millions of immigrants in the U.S. illegally. McCarthy stated his personal view on the contentious issue in an interview with KBAK/KBFX Eyewitness News in his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif. He signaled that the call for a provisional legal status would be included in the immigration reform principles House Republican leaders are soon to release.

The Obama administration on Friday carved out yet another category of illegal immigrants it says it will no longer deport — in this case saying that relatives of U.S. troops and veterans who previously served can apply to stay in the country. The administration said it was making the move because it was worried illegal immigration was hurting military readiness, and this would be a way to relieve some of the “stress and anxiety” faced by troops whose relatives are illegal immigrants.

NAPLES, FL - A Collier County man was arrested for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl. According to reports, a school counselor reported an 11-year-old girl had been sexually abused. The victim said she had moved to Naples from Honduras about nine months ago. She told deputies Cecilio Rivera-Lozano, 24, had been sexually abusing her almost every day for the past eight months beginning in March. Last month, Ramiro Serrano Hernandez, 26, was arrested for killing a young woman in Provo, only hours after being cited for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
