On Sunday, police in Greenville arrested Edmundo Gonzalez-Cinta, 50, after he reportedly raped a young girl.
Police have released very few details about the crime, in order to protect the victim's identity.
Gonzalez-Cinta has been charged with first degree child rape and is currently being held at the Pitt County Detention Center of $500,000 bond as well as an immigration detainer.
Pitt County detention officers have confirmed that Gonzalez-Cinta is in the country illegally.

Seriously, the people of a state need to reach an agreement with the police that there are crimes that should never end up in court. Likely there are places where this has long been the case.
It is not something to take lightly, and should only be done if the evidence is damning, and the crime is heinous beyond unconscionable. The end result must be very discreet, even to the point where it cannot provide solace to the victims of the crime. For its purpose is not revenge, but to insure that it can never happen again.
Finality might come in the form of a vertical mine shaft, at the depths of which is foul water and poisonous gas, along with the statement that the police had tried to apprehend the criminal, but he had fled to parts unknown.
