The third-ranking House Republican, Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), said he backs granting legal status, but not a new pathway to citizenship, to millions of immigrants in the U.S. illegally.
McCarthy stated his personal view on the contentious issue in an interview with KBAK/KBFX Eyewitness News in his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif. He signaled that the call for a provisional legal status would be included in the immigration reform principles House Republican leaders are soon to release.

That's it. Kick the can down the road and don't even PRETEND you care about actually fixing the problem.
He’s for it. I wonder how his constituents are on it.
I wonder if there’s an accommodation in the Constitution for it.
Rule of law anyone?
Bunch of illegals in his district. Not a shocker that he’s for it. Pandering fools.
“said he backs granting legal status, but not a new pathway to citizenship,”
Legal status IS a pathway to citizenship. The judges that 0bama is packing into the courts will declare them to be citizens with voting rights.
It’s simply more pandering to the illegals they’ve allowed to overrun the left coast to save their cushy, sorry ass jobs.
It’s also called TREASON!!
I called McCarthys office today and reminded them that they had told me several days ago that they would not accept amnety in any way and reform for them meant enforcement only. I called back today and the toddy that they had that answered the phone did not not have a clue as to how to respond to me reminding that. Keep calling them. When I called first time I could not get through due to the line being busy so hopefulluy a lot of you are calling.
Did you call his office and challenge him on that?
Really, if it wasn't for the "lesser of two evils" vote, they might as well get real jobs.
Their status is legal in their country.
Obey your oath - defend the country from foreign invasion.
Yes, and the throngs of new (and already community-organized) voters will waste no time in voting Dems in, and fools such as McCarthy out.
(It's amazing how many allegedly s. m. a. r. t. GOPers just do not see this.
.
“Please help me out here. Does the GOPe have an actual constituency or is it merely being propped up by special interests; who votes for these people anymore?”
The GOPe is in the process of shifting to serving a corporate special interest donor base from a constituent base which is being discarded.
They have nothing but contempt for middle class working Americans.
How about 20+ years of indentured servitude for legal status with never any possibility of voting rights?
IOW, I want them here to drive down wages, but not to vote Democrat.
Legalizing the illegals means they will be working in banks, armored trucks, airport security and using explosives at mines more and more. It is better off they are working under the table as waiters and farm workers.
Then they can steal the explosives and sell the explosives to Drug cartels.
The troubling part is that in all of this defense of Amnesty you never here one logical argument for how it is good for the nation. We hear that it is good for big businesses because they get cheap labor and don’t have to pay for health insurance and they are exempt from the penalty.
What about the millions who won’t find jobs? They will consume more government services. What about the citizens who are fired and replaced with the immigrants?
This is a net loss for American citizens any way you slice it up.
