Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) says he will consider throwing his weighty financial support behind Rep. Todd Akin (R), the Missouri Senate candidate who has been shunned by party leaders in Washington.

In about 28 hours, the Republican Party will be, for all intents and purposes, stuck with Todd Akin. The Missouri Senate candidate has shown no signs of bowing to pressure from the national party to get out of the race after his controversial comment about “legitimate rape” turned the race on its head. And though the party initially held out hope that Akin would change his mind at some point over the past month, it now appears that ship has sailed. The technical deadline for being able to replace Akin on the ballot, if he dropped out, is Tuesday. But...

The controversy over Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin’s abortion comments was started by a George Soros-funded Democratic Party Super-PAC and the “bait” was taken by Republican Party officials who wanted him out of the race for other reasons, says John Putnam, Missouri state coordinator for the national Tea Party Patriots Group.

As the clock ticks down to the final deadline for Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) to withdraw from the U.S. Senate race in Missouri, other legal provisions of the state’s election law will begin to take effect, hampering efforts favored by much of the Republican establishment to force him from the race. Akin, formerly considered one of Republicans' best chances at a Senate pickup, drew ire from conservatives nationwide over comments he made about pregnancy in cases of "legitimate rape" being rare. Republicans, including Mitt Romney, asked Akin to drop out of the race, but he has persisted, despite effectively becoming...

“I regret to say that Congressman Akin has been subjected to disgraceful treatment at the hands of the GOP political bosses,” Dobson said. “They have withheld funds for his campaign, even though he won the GOP primary for the Senate seat. Karl Rove and Haley Barbour have said things about his character that are untrue. Their vicious opposition could get his Democratic opponent elected in his stead. That is curious since an Akin win could give the Senate majority to the Republicans.” Read more: http://conservativebyte.com/2012/09/dobson-blasts-vicious-gop-opposition-to-akin/#ixzz26kso7vot

Rep. Todd Akin’s wife, Lulli Akin, says the Republican Party’s attempts to push her husband out of the Missouri Senate race — over his false assertion that women who are raped rarely get pregnant — are like rape itself. RELATED: Akin TV Ad Buy Canceled — For Failure To Pay Station She also believes the GOP’s abandonment is on par with the tyranny that launched the American Revolution. Akin’s wife isn’t the first one to compare Akin’s explosive rape comments, and the ensuing fallout, to rape: Bryan Fischer said the party’s treatment of the embattled candidate had made Akin “a...

Dr. James Dobson, whose advice about parenting, child-rearing, marriage and faith has guided millions of Americans and whose counsel on family matters has been sought by presidents, today blasted the Republican Party for abandoning a strong GOP candidate to be U.S. senator, U.S. Rep. Todd Akin. Dobson, the founder and president of Family Talk, which produces his regular radio program, “Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk,” told WND it is “disgraceful” that the “GOP political bosses” have told Akin to drop out of his race, have withdrawn financial support and publicly maligned the congressman. “I regret to say that Congressman Akin...

Embattled Missouri GOP Senate nominee Todd Akin took aim at Haley Barbour Friday, accusing the former Mississippi Republican governor of “trying to advance his own personal brand” at Akin’s expense. In a fundraising email, the Missouri congressman referred to Barbour, a former Republican National Committee chairman, as “the Godfather of DC Party Bosses” and a “mega-lobbyist for the special interests” after Barbour criticized Akin and called on him to drop out of the race earlier this week in a web video. The sharp pushback against Barbour is part of Akin’s two-front Senate campaign, one against Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, and...

The prospect of a Republican Senate majority relies more than ever on a strong showing at the top of the ticket by GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney. With less than eight weeks to go and both national party conventions complete, a path remains for the Republicans after several weeks of shifts in the Senate landscape. But for the GOP, it's now more akin to a game of hopscotch than a straight-line sprint to the majority. It could require a leap over Missouri - once a virtual sure thing for the GOP - to Connecticut, where the Senate race appears closer than...

The fallout appears to linger in the Missouri Senate race, with incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill still holding a six-point lead over Republican challenger Todd Akin. But the race is tightening. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds McCaskill will 49% support to Akin’s 43%. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate in the contest, and another four percent (4%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The furor over Todd Akin's remarks about rape and the low probability of a resulting pregnancy have died down for the time being. I hesitated to comment on the whole affair during the tumult because most of what was written or said during that time was sure to be lost in the whirlwind of hyperbole. The accuracy of Representative Akin's comments, at least from a medical stand point may be shaky. Although it is true that the incidence of impregnation is probably lower just as the incidence of spontaneous miscarriage is higher, there certainly are cases of pregnancy resulting from...

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Three weeks after Republican Rep. Todd Akin upended the national political landscape by claiming that pregnancies rarely result from “legitimate rape,” the race for Senate in this increasingly conservative state — and in many ways the battle for control of Congress’s upper chamber — has settled into a waiting game. A Sept. 25 deadline looms. That’s the last day Akin can petition Missouri courts to remove his name from the ballot — and comply with the near-universal calls from party leaders who think his comments have made unwinnable a seat they need for an easier path to...

"We're going to be here through the November election, and we're going to be here to win." Those were the words of Republican Rep. Todd Akin late last month as he vowed to press on with his campaign to unseat Democratic Sen. He’s in a money crunch:Todd Akin’s TV ads are, reportedly, being yanked from stations across the state because his campaign isn’t paying the bills. KOMU-TV in Columbia says it received half of the payment for an ad buy, and when it didn’t get the other half, it cancelled the rest of the ads. The station says its confirmed that other stations from St. Louis to Kansas City have been put in the same position. McCaskill, meanwhile, is running positive ads about how moderate she is. I imagine the tone of the race will change markedly if Akin stays in past...

ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – Rep. Todd Akin’s “insurgent” campaign against both Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill and the leaders of his own party may not be the long shot it’s been portrayed, despite the national furor over Akin’s comments on The Jaco Report that women who are victims of “legitimate rape” have natural defenses against becoming pregnant. A pair of polls taken after the incident and the following uproar either show Akin with a lead over McCaskill, or indicate the race is tied. The latest survey from Public Policy Polling, taken August 29, shows McCaskill leading Akin 45% to 44%,...
