One of America’s most contested midterm races, between Adam Laxalt and Catherine Cortez Masto, is coming to a head in Nevada. As of Thursday morning, Republican Mr Laxalt maintained a slight lead over Democratic incumbent Ms Cortez Masto in the Senate race with just over 79 per cent of votes counted, according to the New York Times. The race could still be subject to substantial shifts as two counties with the vast majority of voters - Clark and Washoe - continue to tabulate mail-in ballots late into Wednesday night with large margins for Democrats, according to the Nevada Independent. Those...

Pro-trans Republican Jen Kiggans is trying to rebrand herself as she runs for the GOP nomination to Congress in Virginia’s battleground 2nd District, filing a dead-on-arrival trans sports bill in the State Senate after losing the support of conservatives over her vote to open girls restrooms up to men and to help Democrats re-write Virginia law in their “trans-affirming” image. Kiggans, who has been unable to re-write history and shake her reputation as a pro-trans Republican, is now looking to change the narrative in real time, filing a frivolous bill, SB 766, in the Democrat-controlled State Senate, that she says...

Former national security adviser John Bolton and his newfound opposition to President Trump have become a campaign issue in the Republican primary in Maine’s Democratic-controlled 2nd Congressional District, a top GOP target this fall. “John Bolton lies about President Trump, and now, his henchmen are doing the exact same thing to Trump conservative Eric Brakey,” says a new ad from the Protect Freedom PAC. “They’re scared of Brakey because they know he will stand with Trump, fight to drain the swamp, and advance an America First agenda.” The group’s spokesman, Michael Biundo, urged Maine Republican voters to “ignore the Bolton...

This week’s edition of Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update served as a sequel of sorts to last week’s episode. Pete Davidson followed up on his insult of newly-elected Congressman Dan Crenshaw by bringing the politician on to the show to get his revenge and share a serious message about respecting veterans. Crenshaw, a Republican politician and military veteran who lost his eye in Afghanistan in 2012, had been targeted by Davidson as part of SNL’s midterms preview. Davidson mocked the politician’s injury, saying he looked like a “hitman in a porno.” Davidson had quickly added, “I’m sorry, I know he...

We are told that Xochitl Torres Small is a traditional New Mexico Democrat like myself — one who loves hunting on our beautiful public lands. This wouldn’t be the first time that a campaign ad has tried to mislead us about a politician, of course, but it’s still insulting. Small is a lifelong liberal activist who has raised millions of dollars from out of state interests to brand herself as a moderate and win the race for New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District in November, but her political record is simply too blue to hide behind a quick coat of purple paint. If you want...

“If the Democrats lose the Florida Senate, that’s going to be bad, really bad,” Carville said. “If Nelson loses Florida and you are a Democrat, throw up and go to bed because the night is over.”

RICHMOND —Rep. Scott Taylor (R-Va.) leads Democratic challenger Elaine Luria 50 percent to 43 percent in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, according to a new poll released Monday by Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center for Public Policy. Taylor has a 7-point lead among likely voters, suggesting that voters are not troubled by his involvement in a scandal in which his campaign staffers submitted fraudulent signatures in a failed effort to get another candidate onto the ballot. The poll had a margin of error of about 4 percentage points.

A poll conducted for Republican Rep. Don Bacon found he leads by 9 points in a House race Democrats have pegged as their best pick-up opportunity in Nebraska. Bacon led Democrat Kara Eastman 49 percent to 40 percent, with 9 percent undecided, according to a telephone survey of 400 registered voters conducted by Rob Autry and Kayla Dunlap. Republicans have held the 2nd District, which encompasses Omaha and contains some of Nebraska’s few pockets of Democratic strength for the better part of the last quarter century — barring two years Democrat Brad Ashford was in office from 2014 to 2016....

WASHINGTON — Democrat Joshua Cole will not contest his narrow election loss to Republican Bob Thomas, despite earlier indications that he was considering asking the House of Delegates for an election do-over. Thomas won the 28th District race by 73 votes. Cole had repeatedly raised concerns about the 147 total voters in the Stafford and Fredericksburg area who cast votes in the wrong races across the 28th, 88th and 2nd House districts because they were assigned to the wrong districts in a state voter registration database. Cole, who had signaled he was strongly considering filing a contest, will instead continue...

Jesse Jackson Jr. faces no small challenges in his re-election run in the Congressional 2nd District. According to a Jackson surrogate, speaking at a news conference Monday, Satan is behind the opposition. Between 40 and 60 ministers on Monday joined Jackson to endorse his re-election campaign. They're prepared for a fight, and Pastor Willie James Campbell even denounced the "satanic forces" that want to defeat their man. Satanic forces could be aligned against the congressman in some ethereal space, but here on earth Jackson Jr. has real problems. On one hand, opponent Debbie Halvorson has given Jackson some of the...

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Democrats have held onto one of the most hotly contested congressional seats in the country with Rep. Joe Donnelly winning re-election in northern Indiana's 2nd district. The district was a top target of Republicans in their drive to win a U.S. House majority. Donnelly unseated a Republican congressman in 2006 as the Democrats took control of the house....

U.S. Rep. Glenn Nye announced Saturday that he will vote no on the House health care reform bill. He cited costs to small businesses and cuts to hospitals as primary reasons the bill will not get his support. Though he says the latest version of the bill does achieve many health care reform goals, he believes it will not reduce the cost of health care for families, taxpayers and small businesses. A provision in the bill that Nye believes could lead to nearly $20 million in cuts for the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) was also grounds for...

Rep. Lee Terry hardly had time to return to his Washington office after winning his sixth term in November before being confronted with challengers for 2010. With that election a year and a half out, the Nebraska Republican is already finding himself a target of Democrats hoping to gain control of his 2nd Congressional District seat. Democratic state Sen. Tom White of Omaha announced earlier this month that he is forming an exploratory committee to consider a run against Terry. Also this summer, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee aired a radio ad critical of Terry's vote against a $106 billion...

One of the major suprises of this past election was the strength of Paul Hackett in the eastern rural counties of Scioto, Adams, Pike and Brown. Conveniently, Brown has a website with numbers and past election results. Some interesting factoids about Brown County Ohio: Registered Democrats 4,612 Registered Republicans 3,763 Bet you didn’t know that. November 2004 Bush: 12,647 votes, about 65% Kerry: 7,140 votes, or about 35% June 14th 2nd district primary: Republicans received 2,287 votes, of which Jean only received 392 specifically Democrats received 1,217 of which Hackett received 762. August 2nd general election turnout doubled to about...

No matter who wins on August 2, we will be represented by someone who lives with us, works with us, has integrity, and will effectively represent us (yes, even a Democrat can do that). Winners (again): Every single resident of The 2nd District. A McEwen victory would have forced BizzyBlog to fully research and verify a great deal of...

I tuned in as local radio talker Bill (Willie) Cunningham, who supported Schmidt in the GOP primary interviewed Schmidt and Hackett separately for 9 minutes each in the 1PM hour Wednesday afternoon. Comments (in italics) only relate to how the interview was conducted. Schmidt - Won’t raise taxes. - Waffled on Social Security a bit. (but Cunningham IMO wasn’t fair on the SocSec questions and was interrupting) - Schmidt doesn’t know if it’s a good idea to raise retirement age to 69 or raise earnings cap to $150,000. (Club for Growth pulling hair out) - Says that whatever she ends...

Just wondering if there was any news so far this week. It seems as though things are very tight and getting nasty. DeWine seems to be attacking McEwen. Like I asked before, are the polls showing something? DeWine is attacking the check bouncing stuff. Brinkman's folks are attacking on the carpetbagging stuff and deservedly so. The Club for Growth is on the attack against Jean Schmidt for raising taxes during his stint in the Ohio House. I have said this before, but these Ohio state legislators crack me up. They ran promising not to raise taxes (remember all the Taxin...

The Values Voters Candidates Forum took place at the Montgomery Assembly of God Church in that Northeast Cincinnat suburb from 7-9 PM last night. There was a meet and greet with the candidates afterwards, which I did not attend. The Forum came together as the result of invitations to every candidate from Citizens for Community Values Action. The small PDF flyer for the event is here. Overview Outside campaign signage was heavily McEwen, with relatively modest signage from most of the others who attended. Prerecorded, mellow, crisp, and almost surreal religious piano music filled the room in the 20 or...

Shattering the decorum that has governed their campaign to date, several top Republicans in the 2nd Congressional District race Wednesday night caustically attacked each other, trading bitter exchanges over issues as traditional as voting records and as personal as divorce and individual finances. In the most combustible debate yet in the battle for the GOP nomination in the special June 14 primary for the U.S. House seated vacated by former Rep. Rob Portman, an Anderson Township forum saw Hamilton County Commissioner Pat DeWine harshly lash out at several opponents in defending himself against what he sees as their attacks on...

Former Congressman's Political Ad Stirs Up Controversy Title Precedes Candidate's Name 7 Times In Flier POSTED: 5:42 pm EDT June 1, 2005 UPDATED: 7:01 pm EDT June 1, 2005 CINCINNATI -- Now that Rep. Rob Portman of Cincinnati has assumed the Cabinet post of U.S. trade representative, the list of candidates for his Second District congressional seat is growing. But there is concern that one of the better-known contenders may have gone too far in reminding voters of his accomplishments. The problem isn't just with TV and radio advertisements. In a flier, Bob McEwen calls himself "congressman" seven times. McEwen...
