  • The FBI Needs a Grand Jury

If the Federal Bureau of Investigation is to recover its lost reputation, the first item on Attorney General William Barr’s agenda must be to make good on something that set off a frenzy when he proposed it last week: an honest accounting of the FBI’s spying on the presidential campaign of Donald Trump. To do it, Mr. Barr would be well advised to use a grand jury, the same tool used by special counsel Robert Mueller in his investigation. Right now the American people don’t even know when the FBI investigation into the Trump campaign really started. Officially it began...

The symbolism of the burning of Notre Dame Cathedral, the most renowned building in Western civilization, the iconic symbol of Western Christendom, is hard to miss. It is as if God Himself wanted to warn us in the most unmistakable way that Western Christianity is burning -- and with it, Western civilization. Every major Western (and one major non-Western) social and intellectual force has conspired to rid Europe of Christianity and the civilization it produced. Within the Western world, the French Enlightenment -- the intellectual basis of the French Revolution and the modern West -- sought to replace Christianity, and...

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own. The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram). Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated. PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general...

President Donald Trump made a rare phone call to one of the few men who ever has been in his position: former President Jimmy Carter. It was the first telephone conversation between the two members of the exclusive president's club and focused on US-China trade negotiations, the White House confirmed in a statement, which referred to the correspondence as a "very good telephone conversation." Carter wrote Trump "a beautiful letter" about the ongoing negotiations, the White House said, and the presidents also discussed "numerous other topics." "The President has always liked President Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter, and extended...

So far, House Democrats haven’t been able to do much of anything in terms of legislation. They’ve passed bills on campaign finance and gun control, but none of those have a prayer to pass in the Senate. They attempted to stop Trump’s national emergency declaration to fund a border wall but failed to rally the votes to overturn his veto. A huge percentage of the votes that pass don’t even impact the laws in the U.S. According to a report from Roll Call, nearly one in five votes that passed in the House since Democrats took office are non-binding resolutions,...

A panel of aircraft interior experts judged more than 100 entries from 22 countries with aim of recognizing new ideas that could be implemented very soon in airplanes worldwide.

Meteor showers bring moon geysers. A lunar orbiter spotted extra water around the moon when the moon passed through streams of cosmic dust that can cause meteor showers on Earth. The water was probably released from lunar soil by tiny meteorite impacts, planetary scientist Mehdi Benna of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., and colleagues report April 15 in in Nature Geoscience. Those random impacts suggest water is buried all over the moon, rather than isolated in freezing dark craters — and that the moon has been wet for billions of years.

A dog discovered some 220km (135 miles) off the coast of Thailand has been rescued by a team of oil rig workers after the exhausted pooch was spotted paddling near a drilling platform. The brown aspin swam towards the workers when they called out to him last Friday afternoon. He was then pulled to safety. It is not clear how the dog became stranded so far out at sea. Some reports suggest he may have fallen from a fishing trawler.

A decision to affix an American flag graphic to the side of freshly painted Laguna Beach police cars is dividing residents, who are alternately praising the image as patriotic or panning it as too aggressive... ...“People are screaming that the American flag on a police car is somehow or another ... hurting people’s feelings who might be immigrants or visitors,” said Councilman Peter Blake. “People are actually ridiculous enough to bring up comments about our cop cars having American flags on them.”... ...But the graphic element of the paint job didn't scream “Laguna Beach” to everyone. Local designer Chris Prelitz...

Pelosi appears to take new jab at Ocasio-Cortez, says ‘a glass of water’ with a ‘D’ could win their districts House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Monday made a point to heap more praise on Democrats who flipped Republican seats in the 2018 midterms and downplayed representatives like herself and freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who carried districts where a "glass of water" with a "D" next to it could win. “When we won this election, it wasn’t in districts like mine or Alexandria’s,” Pelosi said. “[S]he’s a wonderful member of Congress as I think all of our colleagues will...

April 16 2019 Tuesday of Holy Week Reading 1 Is 49:1-6 Hear me, O islands, listen, O distant peoples. The LORD called me from birth, from my mother's womb he gave me my name.He made of me a sharp-edged swordand concealed me in the shadow of his arm.He made me a polished arrow,in his quiver he hid me.You are my servant, he said to me,Israel, through whom I show my glory. Though I thought I had toiled in vain, and for nothing, uselessly, spent my strength,Yet my reward is with the LORD,my recompense is with my God.For now the LORD has spokenwho formed...

A Marine who ran the Boston Marathon in honor of three men he served alongside crawled across the finish line on Monday as his body almost gave up — but his mind didn't. Micah Herndon, 31, ran the race in 3 hours and 38 minutes, according to race results. But to hit that mark, he had to physically drag his body along the pavement to finish the race. Herndon, of Ohio, served several deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Record-Courier reported. During a tour in Afghanistan in 2010, three people he was with were killed when they were targeted by...

GRAND HAVEN, MI (Gray News) - A mom and dad in Michigan have found themselves in a court battle with their own son. According to WXMI, the unidentified plaintiff in a civil lawsuit is angry his parents threw away his pornography collection. He estimated it was worth $28,940.72, but he's seeking $86,822.16 in damages. The case dates back to October 2016 when a divorce forced the plaintiff to move into his parents' house in Grand Haven. He stayed with them for 10 months, living rent-free, but doing chores to pull his weight. Still, a domestic incident in August 2017 prompted...

Special Edition04-15-19 ***After Action Report*** I just got back from the demonstration in Fresno, California. It wasn't a Free Republic event, but was sponsored by the local Tea Party and Free Republic was notified at the last minute, so Freeper attendence was small. I counted about 5-6 Freepers. I'd say the total attendance was 50-60 people total, maybe a bit more. There was a Tea Party board member with a sound system and microphone, a guy and his buddy from some web site that I forgot the name of and he was live-streaming the event somewhere on the internet....

Written after the Robert A. Heinlin book of the same title and which I highly recommend. Yes had member Rick Wakeman on keyboards in his standard silver cape. He was on and off with Yes, but always a good performance. Jon Anderson was the lead singer and always talked about his wife Janie who he always travelled with, until she divorced him a few years ago. And Bass guitarist Chris Squire who died in 2015 and Geddie Lee from Rush played in his place for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Steve Howe has been a long-time guitarist...

I'm just curious, off hand. If I found a vein of gold in an undisclosed location, and I mined it for all its worth, how would I get the gold onto the market and retire? I don't have any gold, but I'm just curious about the process.
