The best take I’ve seen yet on the college athletics admission scandal is that someone needs to do a comedy movie where the non-athlete students are forced to play after all, go through grueling practice, with predictable results—they win! Because Hollywood! Because who doesn’t like a good underdog story—you know, those “underdogs” from rich and famous households who just need one tiny break to get into the big leagues. Possible movie titles, suitably amended, include: “cRudy!” “Who-Hoosier?” “Not Even Semi-Tough.” “Any Given Study Hall.” “Friday Night Not-So-Bright Lights.” “The Longest Harvard Yard.” “A Bush League of Their Own.” “Bull Studies...

At the very least, the Beto O'Rourke candidacy for president is certain to be the inspiration for a lot of humor. Abe Greenwald of Commentary magazine already labeled him as the Seinfeld candidate and that it is a "Campaign About Nothing, Not that there's anything wrong with that." No, nothing wrong with that as long as Beto doesn't turn into a demagogue. The good news is that Jack Shafer, the Politico senior media writer, assures us that is unlikely. The reason, Shafer asserted on Thursday, is that O'Rourke is probably what he calls a "semigogue" in "The Semigoguery of Beto O’Rourke."

She is making a mockery of all Americans by sitting in the House of Representatives while publicly raising money...

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem (Old Testament) 1 Samuel 15 15 Samuel said to Saul, “I am the one the Lord sent to anoint you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the Lord. 2 This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. 3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy[a] all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”...

Multnomah County Republican Party Chairman James Buchal announced that he has filed suit on behalf of Portland parents with students in the Portland Public Schools (PPS) for violations of their First Amendment rights arising from the massive anti-gun demonstrations PPS organized a year ago. "Every parent with children in the Portland Public Schools should download and read a copy of the Complaint (available here)," said Buchal, "because it demonstrates the extraordinary degree to which PPS officials have misused scarce educational resources for narrowly partisan and political objectives." The suit is based on thousands of documents recovered through a Public Records...

“Saturday Night Live” aired last October a sketch about a pumpkin patch where the employees, much to the consternation of the proprietor, engage in sexual intercourse with the product. “The Pumpkin Patch” was lewd, funny, and seasonally appropriate. But according to Nick Ruggia and Ryan Hoffman, it was something else — theft. An NBC spokesperson declined to comment. A “Saturday Night Live” source noted that “The Pumpkin Patch” and the other “SNL” sketch in question, “Pound Puppy,” were penned by different writers, but did not identify who wrote either sketch. In a letter sent to NBC last month and obtained...

It would be ‘clericalism’ to keep plagiarist-priest Rosica in media posts: Catholic Register columnist “There is no doubt that students, professors and journalists with a far less extensive record of plagiarism would face maximum penalties,” he wrote. “So it would it would be wrong to say that Fr. Rosica, because he is a priest, should be given privileges that a lay student, professor or journalist would not be given,” he continued. Rosica is CEO of Canada's Salt + Light Media Foundation. He has also served as an English-language assistant to the Vatican's press office. De Souza disclosed that Rosica had stopped...
