Hundreds of migrants have showed up at the U.S.-Mexico border. They’re part of a “caravan” that includes about 5,000 people from Central America. The rest of the caravan, as far as we know, is still in central Mexico. But make no mistake. They’ll show up at the border any day now. And no one can agree on what to do with these people. Some say we should just let them into America. Other people, including President Trump, think we should keep the migrants out. In fact, Trump recently called the caravan an “invasion.” Not only that, he deployed thousands of...

Franciscan Media Image: Mosaic of Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne in the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis, MO | photo by Andrew Balet Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne Saint of the Day for November 20 (August 29, 1769 – November 18, 1852)  Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne’s Story Born in Grenoble, France, of a family that was among the new rich, Rose learned political skills from her father and a love of the poor from her mother. The dominant feature of her temperament was a strong and dauntless will, which became the material—and the battlefield—of her holiness. She entered the Visitation of...

Time and Donald Trump do interesting things to a man. They make Al Gore glitter. It’s almost impossible not to be thinking of Gore now, with the words “Florida” and “recount” so prominent in the news, and it’s hard not to credit him with virtues absent in Trump and increasingly rare in politics these days. Grace in defeat, for one. For another: a commitment to democracy greater than a concern for self. Sure, the review of ballots that Gore’s campaign demanded in 2000, as he and George W. Bush waited to see who would get the Sunshine State’s electoral votes...

JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri, November 20, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Bishop Shawn McKnight was “very disappointed” at the Holy See’s intervention last week prohibiting the U.S. bishops from taking action on measures to address sexual abuse. “My frustration, shared with many other people, is this,” Bishop McKnight of the Diocese of Jefferson City explained. “We have known about the scandal of Archbishop McCarrick since the end of June, and our Church must take immediate, decisive and substantive action in light of the deep wound the scandal has caused.” It’s not so much the time it’s taking to punish McCarrick, he said, and...

Hebei authorities forcefully erected a flagpole with the Chinese flag outside the church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Zhengding, the residence of Bishop Julius Jia Zhiguo, one the most prominent leaders of the Underground Catholic Church. National symbols and Party propaganda play an essential role in President Xi Jinping’s “sinicization” policy. The initiative to hoist the national flag outside the places of worship, proposed by the state-sanctioned religious institutions in July this year, raised concerns among the underground Catholics as yet one more step toward the eradication of churches loyal to the Vatican. In display of power, authorities in...

During Monday’s Ingraham Angle, host Laura Ingraham and her panel discussed CNN political analyst Kirsten Powers’s characterization of white women who voted for President Trump as racists who benefit from the patriarchy. Ingraham opened the segment by playing a clip of Powers from three years ago, back when she was a Fox News contributor and promoting her book, The Silencing: How The Left is Killing Free Speech. According to Powers in 2015: “It’s one thing just to be intolerant and have your own views and just say...I’m not interested in what other people think and I’m not going to talk...

A GENETICALLY modified virus that kills cancer cells and destroys their hiding places has been developed by British scientists. It targets both cancer cells and healthy cells that are tricked into protecting the cancer from the immune system. Fibroblasts, the most common type of cell in connective tissues, are vital in the body's healing process, but they can get hijacked by cancer-associated fibroblasts or CAFs. These then help tumours grow, spread and evade therapy. The new treatment, a form of immunotherapy developed by Oxford University scientists, attacks carcinomas - the most common type of cancer. Currently, any therapy that kills...

Should we be allowing trained teachers in public schools to be armed in the event of a mass shooting? The debate continues in districts around the country, but in Illinois, at least for the time being, it’s over. The choice was put to a vote at the Illinois Association of School Boards and the idea of arming teachers was rejected. It was, however, at least a relatively close vote. A proposal to arm Illinois teachers with guns failed Saturday. Supporters of the move say it could keep students safe from school violence, but opponents say there has to be another...

Children across the country are dying from what the mainstream media is describing as a “polio-like” illness, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is doing everything in its power to cover it all up and pretend like nothing is happening. At least two parents who have lost children to so-called acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), as it’s also called, say that the CDC is acting as though all is well, even as children are becoming paralyzed and losing their lives to the deadly disease. “I feel like they’re just sugar-coating this,” stated Katie Bustamante, whose six-year-old son...

Alan Dershowitz said Saturday on Fox & Friends that Democrats on the extreme left are "tolerating anti-Semitism" to avoid being alienated by their base. His remarks come after Minnesota Rep.-elect Ilhan Omar seemed to reverse her stance on the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel. During a forum in August, Omar said that she supports a two-state solution to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, saying that it's important to "recognize Israel’s place in the Middle East and the Jewish people’s rightful place within that region." However, Omar's campaign told the blog Muslim Girl that she "believes in and supports the...

ON June 16 1983, promising boxer Billy Collins stepped into the ring to face Luis Resto in a fight that would go down in history for all the wrong reasons. Collins, a 14-0 prodigy promoted by the legendary Bob Arum at the time, was fancied to beat Resto – a plucky Puerto Rican who some thought was capable of an upset when the pair met at Madison Square Garden in New York. Touted as the co-main feature before Roberto Duran’s headline fight with Davey Moore, the pair put on a spectacular display of boxing over 10 rounds. Despite entering into...

Dershowitz: How Can Rosenstein 'Be In Charge of Trump Investigation and Main Witness'? Alan Dershowitz commented Monday on Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein after President Trump told Chris Wallace he is answering written questions from Special Counsel Bob Mueller. Dershowitz said Rosenstein presents a "striking example of bias" in one way by "still being in charge of the investigation." After former Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the Russia probe, Rosenstein became the de facto leader who controls Mueller. However, with the acting-appointment of Matt Whitaker, that role moves to his purview. Dershowitz said that any allegation by Mueller...

“This is really a dream come true, because you don’t see this in our home countries," said a Guatemalan gay man who participated in the wedding. At least seven LGBTQ couples who traveled through Mexico with the migrant caravan commemorated their love during a symbolic mass-wedding celebration in the border town of Tijuana. Guatemalan Pedro Nehemias Pastor and Honduran Erick Alexander Durán were one of the couples who partook in the ceremony. “This is really a dream come true, because you don’t see this in our home countries and this is something that we’ve always wanted to do, and today...

Police have named the man who died at a Hobart beach from a suspected stingray puncture wound, while an expert in the marine species has urged calm despite increased numbers of the animals in Tasmanian waters. Nicolas Ricketts, 42, died from cardiac arrest on Saturday shortly after he sustained the injury to his lower abdomen, believed to have been inflicted by a stingray, while swimming at Lauderdale, east of Hobart. Friends and family of Mr Ricketts, known widely as "Ned" who worked as a plumber and had served with the Australian Navy, gathered at the spot where he died yesterday....

Officials with the Oklahoma City Fire Department said there were 28 children and three teachers on the playground at the time of the attack. In all, 12 students were taken to a hospital for treatment – nine for superficial bites and others for scrapes and bruises as children tried to run away from the dog. "The dog came on and started to attack some of the kids, and then of course the kids began to scream and panic, which excited the dog and scared the dog even more, so his natural instinct was to keep biting and going after the...
