When the braying of donkeys is joined by the trumpeting of elephants, some important deaths go completely unnoticed Hit Barack Obama with a dose of reality, and Nancy Pelosi cries. Make that “nearly” cries to squeeze out every ounce of publicity there for the taking when a statesman FINALLY has the floor in joint Congress. “I nearly cried” is what a 4-year-old tells his buddy when explaining how his mother wouldn’t let him have a second ice cream cone during yesterday’s family outing. “House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday blasted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress about...

Put down the donut. And while you're at it, skip the breakfast cereal, fruit juice, beer and ketchup. New guidelines from the World Health Organization says the world is eating too much sugar and people should slash their sugar intake to just 5 to 10 percent of their overall calories. The guidelines, released Wednesday after a year of consultations, are focused on the added sugars in processed food and those in honey, syrups and fruit juices. The advice does not apply to naturally occurring sugars in fruits, vegetables and milk. "We have solid evidence that keeping intake of (added) sugars...

See how things are going at the link.... "The challengers’ attorney Michael Carvin barely got a dozen words out before Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg interrupted him to ask about his plaintiffs’ standing." "Justice Anthony Kennedy says he sees 'a serious constitutional problem' in the idea Congress would force states to set up exchanges or risk their residents losing tax credits."

March 4th was Presidential Inauguration Day from 1793 till 1933, when it was changed by the 20th Amendment to January 20th. Many presidents gave warnings in their inaugural addresses. James Monroe, March 4, 1817, Inaugural Address “It is only when the people become ignorant and corrupt, when they degenerate into a populace, that they are incapable of exercising the sovereignty. … Usurpation is then an easy attainment, and an usurper soon found. … The people themselves become the willing instruments of their own debasement and ruin.” Franklin Pierce, March 4, 1853, Inaugural Address “The dangers of a concentration of...

Another day, another missed data point. ADP Employment data shows 212k jobs added in February, which modestly missed expectations of 219k and is the weakest monthly gain in 6 months. This despite a strong prior revision, pushing the January number up from 213K to 250K to catch up to the BLS runrate. Despite the miss, that showed large businesses adding by far the fewest jobs, Mark Zandi as usual remains optimistic: "jobs growth is strong but slowing," and expects the economy "will return to full employment by mid-2016." Another miss... The breakdown: More irrelevant, goalseeked charts:Change in Nonfarm Private Employment Change in Total...

If you are looking for a Republican candidate in 2016 who isn’t either bought and paid for by the Kochs, or in thrall to the Religious Right – or both – good luck. Not one of them has your interests at heart. Or for that matter, America. People for the American Way in a press release yesterday informed us that both Bobby Jindal and Ted Cruz will be not just attending but headlining an event in Iowa next week with the Religious Right’s evil mastermind, David Lane. And remember the supposedly moderate Jeb Bush, the guy whose attempt to tell...

In the U.S.-Israel dispute over Iran's nuclear program, Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel has emerged as an unlikely protagonist -- siding with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rather than President Obama. In his joint address to Congress, Netanyahu made a point of recognizing the 86-year old Wiesel, who sat in the Speaker's Box with the prime minister's wife, Sara. With us today is Holocaust survivor and Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel." "Elie, your life and work inspires to give meaning to the words, 'never again,'" he added, as lawmakers gave Wiesel a standing ovation. "And I wish I...

The NPT was signed in 1968 and became affective in 1970. Concerning non signatories for the NPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty), Pakistan, India, Israel and South Sudan fall into this list. North Korea withdrew from it, and the rest of the world is either a recognized nuclear weapon state ratifier, a recognized nuclear weapon state acceder, and so on. There are five nuclear weapons states from the NPT (the U.S., Russia, China, France and Great Britain), other states known and/or highly suspect for possessing nuclear weapons (Israel) and states suspected of developing nuclear weapons (Saudi Arabia, Iran and others). There are...

El Rushbo made an excellent point on yesterday's show- how Obama's insane level of stubbornness always has him painted-into-a-corner and lashing-out whenever he's proven to be wrong- never clever or well-adjusted enough to possess a healthy self-awareness... And he NEVER admits an error or leaves himself a policy 'out': Obama simply doubles-down on whatever foolhardy endeavor of his has been exposed, and if he thinks you made him look bad, i.e. Sheriff Joe, it's all about revenge and forcing his intellectual superiority on you... SO superior he doesn't feel a need to explain any of it, either. You're just...

From the Tuesday edition of the Morning Jolt: Great News! Obama’s Drawing a New ‘Red Line’ With Iran! We Can Relax Now! Fascinatingly, President Obama walks around completely unaware of how little credibility he has left – with skeptics in both parties, with the American public, with our allies, or with our enemies. His latest assurance on his rapidly-forming deal with the Iranian regime: Iran must commit to a verifiable freeze of at least 10 years on sensitive nuclear activity for a landmark atomic deal to be reached, but the odds are still against sealing a final agreement, U.S. President...

House Financial Services Committee chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) criticized the Obama administration on Tuesday for "unprecedented secrecy and stonewalling." Hensarling says he'll subpoena officials at agencies such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) if, after one-month and two warnings, they don't respond to his requests for documents. Hensarling laid out the policy in a letter to Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), the panel's top Democrat on Tuesday. In the letter, Hensarling said that he will allow officials two weeks to hand over documents that his panel requests. If he doesn't get the docs, he'll send a follow-up letter giving them...

The people at State who are responsible for this probably didn’t see anything amiss. They probably believe much the same thing, even if they wouldn’t state it in the same lurid terms: they likely think that if Israel would just go away, peace would prevail in the Middle East.

A women's liberal arts college in Virginia announced Tuesday that the spring 2015 semester would be its last — even though the school still has a $94 million endowment. Sweet Briar College — located near Lynchburg, Virginia — will close "as a result of insurmountable financial challenges," the school said in a statement. Sweet Briar administrators cited several trends that informed the decision to close, including the declining number of female students interested in all-women colleges and the dwindling number of students overall interested in small, rural liberal arts colleges. Last year, Bloomberg Businessweek reported that small, private US colleges...

Stage 2 of the Hillary email scandal has been achieved, as yesterday’s “confused old lady who didn’t understand how email works” defense utterly collapsed with the Associated Press’ discovery that Clinton’s mail server was located in her house (her estate in Chappaqua, to be exact — the one she had to settle for because she was “dead broke” after Bill left office) and was registered under the name of a man who does not appear to exist.

When a condemned killer said the woman he and others brutally gang-raped on a New Delhi bus was responsible for what had happened to her, his comments were shocking in their callousness and lack of remorse. But the underlying view has wide acceptance in India. Blaming women for rape is what hundreds of millions of men here are taught to believe. And the code for women in this country is simple: Dress modestly, don't go out at night, don't go to bars and clubs, don't go out alone. If you break the code, you will be blamed for the consequences....

He accused Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, of seeking to destroy Nato, and warned that Russia could seek to use the sort of “hybrid warfare” seen in eastern Ukraine against a Nato member to test the alliance. “I am sure Putin wants to destroy our alliance, not by attacking it but by splintering it,” he said in a speech to military and political leaders in Berlin. He warned that Mr Putin could try to destabilise a Nato member by using a rebel militia as in eastern Ukraine, or other forms of “ambiguous” warfare. In the absence of an overt Russian...
